Commission on Economic Inclusion Recognizes 'Best-in-Class' Member Companies; Releases Results of 2006 Employers Diversity Survey.


CLEVELAND -- The Commission on Economic Inclusion, a coalition of Northeast Ohio employers committed to making the region's diversity a source of economic strength, tonight will recognize eight of its member companies as "Best in Class" for their progress in building and maintaining diverse organizations.

In 2006, the Commission's members grew from 87 to 100 employers. "Each year, the Commission on Economic Inclusion grows in size and scope," said co-chair of the Commission on Economic Inclusion, Christopher M. Connor, chairman and chief executive officer of The Sherwin-Williams Company. "This year, we celebrate the commitment of Northeast Ohio employers who consider diversity in every aspect of their business."

The employers, honored at the Commission's Annual Meeting, were selected based on preliminary results of the 2006 Greater Cleveland Greater Cleveland is a nickname for the metropolitan area surrounding Cleveland in Ohio.

Northeast Ohio refers to a similar but substantially larger area as described below.

Preliminary 2006 Survey Results

The preliminary analysis of the 2006 Greater Cleveland Employers Survey on Diversity is based on data provided by 95 organizations, including some nonmembers. These organizations employ 548,730 individuals, including 187,511 in Northeast Ohio. Responses from five additional surveys, to be submitted, will be included in the final survey analysis.

This analysis compares findings from 2006 against 2005 for the aggregate group, which are responses of the 95 organizations that participated in 2006, compared to the 87 organizations that participated in 2005. It also provides comparative data for the year-to-year group, which is composed of 81 organizations that participated both years. Highlights of current-year results include:

Board Diversity: Minority representation

* Aggregate: Increased from 15 to 16.6 percent

* Year-to-year: Declined from 16.9 percent to 16.4 percent

Senior Staff Diversity: Minority representation

* Aggregate: Decreased from 10.4 percent to 10 percent

* Year-to-year: Increased from 9.8 percent to 10.6 percent

Policies and Practices: Organizations with board statement on inclusion

* Aggregate: Increased from 43 percent to 51 percent

* Year-to-year: Increased from 41 percent to 57 percent

Supplier Diversity: Regional diversity spend

* Aggregate: Increased from $132 million to $450 million

* Year-to-year: Decreased from $131 million to $124 million

Supplier Diversity: Total diversity spend

* Aggregate: Increased from $1.85 billion to $2.16 billion

* Year-to-year: Increased from $1.78 billion to $1.93 billion
