Employment was up by 37 designers to 556. A total of 20 firms reported 2004 L.A. County billings equal to or greater than their 2003 totals. Nadel Architects Inc. debuted at No. 16 on this year's list with $2.5 million in 2004 billings locally, up 127.3 percent from the previous year. Shlemmer+Algaze+Associates Interiors and Architecture, No. 5, and Wolcott Wolcott, town (1990 pop. 13,700), New Haven co., central Conn.; inc. 1796. There is some light manufacturing. Bronson (Amos) Alcott was born nearby. Architecture Interiors, No. 7, each moved up three spots, increasing billings by $1.2 million and $1.1 million, respectively.
