Nila R. Leiserowitz, a Gensler principal, who heads the firm's L.A. interior design operations, said there has been an across-the-board increase in activity in 2004. A general trend of lease expirations, coupled with consolidation in the advertising industry, has fed a need for commercial interior designers locally.

Relationships with existing clients, as well as projects for new clients, have helped Gensler surpass $11 million in billings through the first half of 2004. The firm is on pace to reach $23 million in billings by the end of the year, a gain of 40 percent over 2003.

Some recent projects include design work for Western Asset Management's 150,000-square-foot complex in Pasadena Pasadena (păs'ədē`nə).
