CommerceGuard System to Be Installed at the Port of Portland to Improve Marine Cargo Security.

State-of-the-Art Security Technology Has Been Proven to Be Effective and Reliable

PORTLAND, Ore. -- The U.S. Congress has recently identified maritime security as one of our country's greatest vulnerabilities. GE Security and its global partners have made commercially available the CommerceGuard[TM] System, a global supply chain system that deters and detects theft, smuggling, and international terrorism by integrating container security devices (CSDs) within a global information network, to meet these maritime security needs.

As part of an ongoing security initiative, GE Security will announce the deployment of CommerceGuard at the Port of Portland to provide enhanced security options to the port's customers. GE Security and the Port of Portland, along with Senator Wyden and Congressman Blumenauer, will hold a press conference on February 19 to make this announcement. A demonstration of the security system will follow the remarks.

          System to announce the installation of the supply chain
          security system at the Port of Portland.

          The CommerceGuard container security solution, jointly owned
          by GE Security, Mitsubishi Corporation, Samsung Corporation,
          and Siemens Building Technology, features the first market-
          ready container security device (CSD) that is located inside
          an international cargo container and registers openings of
          the container door.  Fixed and handheld readers record its
          status in the CommerceGuard Information Network that can be
          accessed anywhere in the world.
