Auction Services 4.0 also aims to provide new process automation capabilities that seamlessly turn completed auctions into purchase orders, powering end-to-end management of buying and selling activities, fully integrated with e-procurement.

"Making auctions a fundamental part of B2B transactions requires solutions that allow customers to buy or sell based on whatever terms fit their needs, on a platform that manages the entire e-procurement or liquidation process," said Liron Petrushka, vice president of auction services for Commerce One. "We believe Auction Services 4.0 will giveparticipants on e-marketplaces a backbone for conducting complex trading and negotiation."

Key capabilities and features of Auction Services 4.0 include the following:

-- Multi-Variable Bidding: allows users to conduct complex sourcing
of both direct and indirect goods by enabling the creation,
modification and reuse of auction variables such as product
specification, quality, delivery and availability. Buyers and
sellers can conduct real-time "back and forth" online bidding on
    key terms and conditions.

-- Multi-Line Bidding: allows sellers to arrange complex multi-line
lots, which can include miscellaneous materials that otherwise may
have remained in long-term inventory. It also enables buyers to
put multi-item Request for Proposals (RFP) and Purchase orders out
    for bid online.

-- Collaboration capability: supports supplier interaction on Request
for Quote (RFQ) documents such as specifications or drawings and
allows users to easily attach documents to any level of the
    electronic RFQ or RFP package.

-- Purchase Order Integration: Auction Services is integrated with
    Commerce One's e-marketplace and e-procurement capabilities,
enabling end-to-end management of the procurement process and the
ability to generate a purchase order immediately after the close
    of a successful auction.

-- Multiple language support: Auction Services is internationalized
and currently supports 12 languages including without limitation
Japanese, Korean, Chinese, German, French, Italian and Spanish.

Design and development of Auction Services 4.0 was driven by requirements gathered from Commerce One's extensive and diverse global customer and partner base, which includes many of the world's leading industry e-marketplaces and mega exchanges, such as Artikos, BellSouth, Endesa, EventSource.com, General Motors, and SESAMi.
