Commerce now employs more than 5,000 people in the tri-state region For other tri-state regions, see .

.The Bank's need for an additional 1,500 positions is being driven by Commerce's aggressive expansion plans, which include opening more than 30 new branches during 2001.

For the past two years, Commerce has annually set new records with its rapid expansion, adding 25 new branches in 1999 and 30 branches during 2000.

In keeping with its retail-based, customer service-intensive strategy as "America's Most Convenient Bank," Commerce plans to double the total number of its prototype branches from its current 150 to 300, and increase its total assets from $8.3 billion to $20 billion, by the year 2005.

The newly-created positions range from tellers and branch managers, to senior executives in lending and other phases of the Bank's operations. A Commerce Bank branch generally requires a staff of 20 full- and part-time employees.

The continuing growth of Commerce National Insurance Services, along with the expanding public and personal finance businesses of Commerce Capital Markets, have created additional career opportunities beyond traditional banking positions.

"As the region's largest locally headquartered bank, we are proud to be a major local employer," said Commerce Chairman and President Vernon W. Hill. "Our continuing growth is producing many career opportunities at a time when other major companies across the nation are announcing sizeable workforce cuts."

Its 2001 branch expansion to occur throughout its service areas in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware, Commerce will mark the coming year with an unprecedented pace of new construction. The Bank plans to open more than 20 branches in New Jersey alone. Additional branches will be constructed in counties where the Bank debuted in the past year, including Union, Morris, and Middlesex counties For the traditional county of England, see Middlesex.

For other uses, see Middlesex (disambiguation).

Middlesex County is the name of six counties in North America:
  • Canada
  • Middlesex County, Ontario
.

The Bank will also open its first branches during 2001 in Essex County Essex County can refer to:
  • Essex County, Ontario, Canada
  • Essex County, Massachusetts, United States of America
  • Essex County, New Jersey, United States of America
  • Essex County, New York, United States of America
, New Jersey. More than a dozen branches are planned for Pennsylvania, and another branch - the sixth in the state - is set to open in Delaware, where Commerce has opened its first five branches in just the past year.
