The OpenSolutions Summit is scheduled to take place February 14-15, 2007, at the New York Marriott Marquis New York Marriott Marquis Times Square at 1531-1549 Broadway opened in 1985 and was designed by architect John Portman.  on Wednesday, February 14th at 9:00 a.m. Schneier's presentation, entitled "The Economics of Information Security," addresses the hot and rapidly growing field of research focusing on economics and computer security.

"Security is both a feeling and a reality, and they're very different. I have long derided security that makes people feel better without actually doing anything as security theater, but the reality is much more complicated," said Bruce Schneier. "People make bad trade-offs when their security feeling and security reality are out of whack. Security theater is a way to bring those two into alignment."

Another highlight from Wednesday's Security track is a case study, "Searching For Security," presented by Heather Adkins, Manager, Information Security, Google. With over 9000 employees and web properties that extend to 468 million people, Google's need for network safety and customer privacy is one of its key focuses. How does Google use open source technology to find unique solutions to these challenges? Join Heather as she delves into Google's approach to these challenges and discusses some of the areas where open source software needs to improve.

"Open source software is a definite asset when combating security problems," said Heather Adkins. "We know how open source software works, we know how to patch it, and we have more ways to make it safer than with most of our other options."
