(reader forum).As a student of dance (and a gay male artist), I appreciated Joseph Carman's article about Stephen Petronio Stephen Petronio is an artistic director, choreographer and dancer based in New York City. Born in Newark, New Jersey, in 1956, he later received a B.A. degree from Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts, where he began dancing in 1974. ["A New Twist on 9/11," September September: see month. 17]. It is a pleasure to realize that those outside the tight-knit dance community value the work that is being done by dancers (gay and straight alike). I also appreciate Carman's ability to understand dance theory enough to characterize Petronio's work while juxtaposing the importance of it to the national tragedy that 9/11 was and is.
