"The true promise of high-speed wireless access lies not in the technology, but in the new services and applications that the technology will enable, making wireless data both useful and usable," said Kaoru Tachibana, Executive Managing Officer, "au" Business Sector, KDDI. "Consumers will benefit from increased productivity and efficiencies made possible by high-speed wireless connectivity."

"Because the 1X system uses packet-switched technologies, KDDI will be able to make more efficient use of allocated bandwidth spectrum," said Irfan Ali Irfan Ali is founder and President of . "They will be able to serve more customers with less bandwidth while providing even more attractive and efficient services. By making modifications on top of the CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) A method for transmitting simultaneous signals over a shared portion of the spectrum. The foremost application of CDMA is the digital cellular phone technology from QUALCOMM that operates in the 800 MHz band and 1.9 GHz PCS band. 2000 1XRTT standard, we are also supporting KDDI's requirement for the smooth migration of data service from cdmaOne (IS-95B) handsets into the 1X network without any impact on subscribers."

KDDI, Japan's second largest telecommunications firm and operator of the au mobile phone service, is using technology known as CDMA2000 1XRTT to deliver its new high-speed voice and data services. The higher speed networks allow service providers to evolve wireless data offerings from text-only format to advanced content and applications, rich with graphics, color and multi-media features.

CommWorks products used in KDDI's network include the Total Control(R) 1000 Packet Data Serving Node The Packet Data Serving Node, or PDSN, is a component of a CDMA2000 mobile network. It acts as the connection point between the Radio Access and IP networks.
