Through this agreement, CommVault Systems, Inc. and DISC, Inc. join together to provide the largest, most robust optical storage solution for client/server environments. This partnership will enable CommVault to offer DISC's Orion series of high capacity optical jukeboxes as an integrated OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  solution, featuring DISC's new increased 5.2-gigabyte (GB) capacity, within its enterprise storage management solution. This offering will double CommVault's data umbrella to 2.74-terabytes (TB) and answer the need for a single, reliable, high capacity storage solution for an entire enterprise.

By partnering with DISC, Inc., CommVault's storage management solution is better equipped to address even the most demanding, data-intensive environment in a single jukebox A storage device for multiple sets of CD-ROMs, DVDs, tape cartridges or disk modules. Using carousels, robot arms and other methods, a jukebox physically moves the storage medium from its assigned location to an optical or magnetic station for reading and writing. . DISC's optical jukeboxes feature 8X optical drives that read 5.25" optical platters each holding 5.2 GB of data. Now large distributed enterprise environments can meet its storage requirements in a single 5.25" magneto-optical system. These systems are targeted at enterprise-wide data management solutions for open client/server environments. This agreement will expand the market for DISC products beyond its traditional strength in document management and imaging to enterprise storage management solutions.

Through this agreement, CommVault will integrate its complete suite of network-aware software solutions with selected DISC optical library systems, ensuring the reliable, rapid restoration of files, network file systems, and databases. Responding to the demand for reliable, fast access to quickly growing volumes of data, this partnership ensures that organizations can implement successful storage management solutions that meet their high performance, reliability and access requirements.

"As the clear leader in utilizing automated optical libraries for distributed client/server storage solutions, CommVault is committed to bringing our customers the high performance and the capacity answers they require," said Larry Cormier, vice president of marketing for CommVault Systems. "We are continually striving to exceed our customer's needs for reliable storage solutions. This partnership allows CommVault to integrate DISC's 2.74 TB automated libraries into a single centralized cen·tral·ize

a recent IDC report, centralized, optical back-up and disaster recovery storage solutions are becoming an integral component of the overall data management design to consider when implementing an enterprise-wide computing network. The report went on to state that optical storage solutions provide:

-- Unmatched reliability with write / read verification -- Virtually impervious data corruption Data corruption refers to errors in computer data that occur during transmission or retrieval, introducing unintended changes to the original data. Computer storage and transmission systems use a number of measures to provide data integrity, the lack of errors.  capabilities -- Speed near that of average magnetic disk -- High storage capacity - Up to 5.2 GB on a single disk -- Random access to data

Dick Ellis, president and chief executive officer, DISC, Inc. said, "We have always believed that optical storage is a practical solution for heterogeneous computing environments. Optical jukeboxes in combination with the proper software provide distinct advantages for those environments including superior reliability, faster file restores, and improved archiving capabilities. CommVault Systems' compression software effectively doubles the data storage capacity of the DISC optical library. This capability creates a single centralized repository that can hold 5.58 TB of data. Utilizing centralized storage enables organizations to manage their growing volume data more effectively through well-crafted policies.
