Coming clean early pays off.
The practice of owning up to mistakes and offering compensation to
patients before they realize an error occurred can minimize malpractice
litigation, according to a report in a recent issue of the Annals of
Internal Medicine. Coming clean early apparently diminishes the desire
for revenge that motivates patients to sue, which is contrary to the
perception of most healthcare providers who think an admission of error
increases their liability.
