Coming clean early pays off.


The practice of owning up to mistakes and offering compensation to patients before they realize an error occurred can minimize malpractice litigation, according to a report in a recent issue of the Annals of Internal Medicine. Coming clean early apparently diminishes the desire for revenge that motivates patients to sue, which is contrary to the perception of most healthcare providers who think an admission of error increases their liability.
