SOME of the biggest North East names on the comedy circuit are getting together for a one-off charity show.

The event, called A Joke for a Boat, is the brainchild of Manchester-based comedian Lee Fenwick and will raise money for the North East Maritime Trust, based in South Shields.

Lee Fenwick said: "Given the boat's admirable history and length of service to the North East it seems only right that we now come to her aid and assist the trust in restoring her to her former glory."

Customs House executive director Ray Spencer said: "Hosting this show is our way of saying 'thank you' to the fantastic men of the North East Maritime Trust who built Salma's Dream, the stunning centrepiece of our knitting exhibition.

"Congratulations must go to Lee for arranging such a stellar line-up. It promises to be a great night."

A Joke for a Boat is on Sunday, September 20, at 8pm.
