Mason and Ulm were also instrumental in launching comic book series based on hit media properties including "Street Fighter," "Mortal Kombat," and "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine."

"MainBrain Productions is a virtual entertainment company," Ulm said. "We have access to over 1,000 writers, artists, colorists, computer graphics specialists and designers from which we form creative teams for specific projects. Once a project is completed, the groups disband dis·band

and we move on to new projects with new teams."

"With that kind of flexibility, we always field a winning team," Mason added.

Ulm said the business model for the company is a combination of the one used by video game development firms, advertising agencies and movie production companies. Borrowing from movie studios and software firms, team leaders at MainBrain are called "Producers."

Despite the movie and software analogies, it's comic books and comic book storytelling that are the main focus of MainBrain Productions. Ulm said, "Comics are a universal language that translate across media, culture and, most importantly, the demographic gulf between the 6-year-old and the 96-year-old."

With a combined 25 years of experience in the comic book industry, it's no surprise that comic books form a large part of MainBrain's business plan. "We love the format of comic books for telling stories," Ulm said. "Comic books are an American art form, similar to movies, but with rules and conventions all their own.

"Our goal is to take the comic book form and apply it to new entertainment platforms. It doesn't matter if it's a CD-ROM CD-ROM: see compact disc.

, a movie or a video game. It's the content that matters."

MainBrain brings this powerful form of creative expression to a variety of fields, packaging characters, stories and concepts for comic book publishers, movie and television studios, advertising agencies, new media and software developers, Fortune 500 companies and any business or organization that needs a unique and powerful art form to deliver their message to a mass audience.

MainBrain Productions is located at 22933 Pacific Coast Highway, Malibu, Calif. 90265, a "two-minute walk from the Pacific Ocean," according to Mason. "It's the greatest meeting room in the world."
