Occupant: Happy Walters

Title: President and founder

Company: Immortal Entertainment

Designer: Himself

Style: Living-room lounge

HAPPY Walters practically lives at work, so it only makes sense that the Immortal Entertainment president's office feels like a cozy living room.

Walters' Santa Monica office lacks the glitzy flash that could be expected from a man who oversees a record label, film and television production company and entertainment and sports management agency. But that's not what he had in mind four years ago when he converted his two-story headquarters building from the home of a large printing press into the home of his company.

"It's supposed to feel very warm," Walters said. "The whole office has that feeling. It's comfortable."

Walters himself chose the furnishings and d[acute{e}]cor for his high-ceiling office, and even picked up vintage chairs and tables at local thrift shops.

Custom-made pillows fill one corner to create a lounge-style sitting area. "This is where I listen to music with my headphones, and sit with artists and hang," Walters explains.

In another corner, a comfy couch and heavy wooden table allow for more-serious business meetings. Taupe and mustard-yellow walls, shelving units custom-made from the wood of an old barn, hardwood floors and neutral-colored furniture add to the office's homey feel.

Walters' desk -- an antique dining table -- sits angled in one corner. "I need a big desk," he says, sweeping an arm toward stacks of papers and CDs.

Even a large desk can't hold everything. So behind the desk, Walters stores piles of movie scripts, shelves of CDs, a mini-fridge stocked with bottled water and York peppermint patties, and a 9-foot-tall custom surfboard emblazoned with the Immortal Records logo.

Gold and platinum records for Korn, Rage Against the Machine, and the "Pret-a-Porter" soundtrack line one wall and sparkle when the sun shines through the office's skylight and enormous paned windows.

Walters hasn't left out personal touches, including a Disney animator's pencil sketch of Happy (the dwarf from "Snow White"), a towering trophy from a 1994 Malibu softball tournament (he participates in several adult softball leagues), and an autographed photo "To Hap" from UCLA basketball coach John Wooden.

The office has become a haven for Walters, who recently produced the Salma Hayek and Jeff Goldblum movie "Chain of Fools," which is slated for release in the fall.

"You can do everything here," he says.
