Comer's Open House with Car, Truck & Motorcycle Show to Bring Enthusiasts Together for Charity Extravaganza.

Hickory, city (1990 pop. 28,301), Burke and Catawba counties, W N.C., at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mts.; inc. 1870. It is a processing and trade center for an abundant agricultural region (grain, soybeans, poultry, hogs, cattle, dairying). Manufactures include furniture; textiles and tape; stone, plastic, and metal products; electric and electronic equipment; optical fibers; and consumer goods.
 GROVE, S.C. -- On July 2nd Comer's Full Service & Grill will celebrate what may be the biggest Open House celebration Hickory Grove, South Carolina has ever seen. The public is invited to a Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show, featuring a Burn Out Competition, horseshoe pitching horseshoe pitching, game played by two or more persons using horseshoes, the object being to throw the shoes so as to encircle a vertical iron peg that is 14 in. (35.6 cm) high. Regulation courts are at least 50 ft (15 m) long and 10 ft (3 m) wide; pitching distance is 40 ft (12.2 m) for men and 30 ft (9.1 m) for women. The tossing of quoits, metal, circular rings, with one rounded and one flat surface, is a related sport. contest, three live bands, the First Annual Miss Hickory Grove Beauty Contest and a closing fireworks display. T-shirts and trophies will be awarded for all events, and there will be plenty of food for all.

After costs, all proceeds -- plus 10% of the day's profits -- will be donated to charity. The three charities designated by Wayne Hills, owner of the truck stop and visionary founder of the event, are:
The York County Sheriffs Department (to purchase two bloodhounds)
   The Hickory Grove Fire Department
   The Rescue Squad.

About Comer's Grill

Comer's is a Full Service Truck Stop and Gas Station, which includes washing windows, as well as checking the wipers, tires and fluids under the hood. Comer's is a family run business founded by Wayne Hills, who recently retired as Senior Account Manager after a distinguished 32 year career with WIX Filters. Step-son Charles is President with full responsibility for everything that takes place in the shop. Tara and Aline, wives of Charles and Wayne, work in the store and will operate the grill as soon as the equipment is installed. Our business hours are 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday.
