I usually disagree with Verb 1. disagree with - not be very easily digestible; "Spicy food disagrees with some people" hurt - give trouble or pain to; "This exercise will hurt your back" almost everything Mr. Sullivan says, but his assertion that voting for Senator Kerry is a gamble with respect to gay rights is truly laughable. Sullivan says that Kerry's opposition to gay marriage is more damaging than President Bush's because it is not rooted in "bigotry or prejudice or pandering to the far right." What? I would rather have Kerry at the table discussing gay fights any day over Bush. One other point that Sullivan completely ignores is that there are many well-informed and -intentioned Americans who support gay rights and equality broadly but have reservations about the specific issue of gay marriage. We have to remember that this is an evolutionary process, not a revolutionary one.
