Come Face to Face with Web Security o www.miros.com.

WELLESLEY, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 3, 1998--

TrueFace Web is the First Biometric to Secure Internet, Intranet and Extranet Access

Miros, Inc., developers of the world's easiest and most reliable personal identification systems, today introduced the first and only biometric tool for securing Web access. Internet users are invited to experience the free TrueFace Web demo at www.miros.com. The demo shows how a PC video camera and a user's face can securely access a Web page. The TrueFace technology compares live video to a previously stored image of a user's face, providing authentication (1) Verifying the integrity of a transmitted message. See message integrity, e-mail authentication and MAC.

(2) Verifying the identity of a user logging into a network.
for Internet, Intranet or Extranet access.

Corporations can enhance secure service and product offerings by deploying TrueFace Web as an alternative to passwords and PINs, which are often times either simple enough for others to guess or too complex for users to remember. For example, traders of high-end commodity items, such as precious gems and metals, can now strengthen security for their Extranet transactions and routing records; clients and brokers can be accurately identified before they trade stocks; and doctors will now be able to access confidential patient records. As an assurance to businesses and consumers of Intranet, Extranet and Web accounts, TrueFace has been certified by the International Computer Security Association (ICSA See TruSecure. ).

"People are burdened by multiple passwords, PINs, cards and tokens to access Web accounts," said Dr. Michael Kuperstein, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  and president of Miros, Inc. "These security measures Noun 1. security measures - measures taken as a precaution against theft or espionage or sabotage etc.; "military security has been stepped up since the recent uprising"

are vulnerable to theft, fraud and human error. TrueFace Web allows companies to Web-enable valuable services and transactions that have not been previously possible because of the fear of fraud."

The patented face recognition in TrueFace Web and other products developed by Miros is based on neural network neural network or neural computing, computer architecture modeled upon the human brain's interconnected system of neurons. Neural networks imitate the brain's ability to sort out patterns and learn from trial and error, discerning and extracting  technology, allowing a computer to "recognize" a face. Unlike passwords and token cards, a face is a more secure access key that can not be lost or stolen and is easier to use. Furthermore, potential thieves are deterred by the TrueFace audit trail, which records an image of the user's face with every transaction, providing additional control for risk management. TrueFace also offers built-in fraud detection so that it can not be fooled by a photograph. These safety and deterrent measures protect against people stealing identities and committing online fraud. TrueFace Web has made Intranets, Extranets and Web accounts secure and practical for access to high-value information and transactions.

TrueFace Web provides corporate chief security officers and information systems (IS) managers with a proven method to reduce the overall cost of user authentication See authentication. . With its ease-of-use and reliability, TrueFace Web enables security officers to forego the expensive practice of assigning, tracking, supporting and administering passwords. TrueFace Web is easily installed with automatic downloads, working with Microsoft Internet Explorer See Internet Explorer.  and Netscape Communicator An earlier suite of Web browsing and groupware tools from Netscape that were packaged as a bundle starting with Navigator 4.0. Communicator refers to any Netscape Navigator product with a version number less than 6.0. . The automatic remote client software installation minimizes administrative costs administrative costs,

and implementation time across the enterprise. For large corporations, the cost of deploying TrueFace Web can be easily offset through savings in administrative and support time, which can be reallocated to performing other valuable IS tasks.
