Comdisco and Moore announce new Disaster Recovery Service print and mail communications processing at time of disaster.

ROSEMONT, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 10, 1996--Comdisco Disaster Recovery Services, the world's largest and most experienced provider of business continuity services, and Moore Business Communication Services, a unit of Moore Corporation and North America's largest provider of essential print and mail services, have announced a co-marketing agreement to provide essential services to client companies at the time of a disaster.

The agreement calls for Comdisco and Moore to market, and for Moore to deliver fulfillment services, for client companies' print and mail distribution needs during a disaster. These mission-critical functions often include revenue and cash-flow documents, such as checks and account statements, as well as regulatory mailings. Moore has new hardware configurations and network extensions in its Thurmont, MD, facility dedicated exclusively to customers' processing requirements during a disaster or business interruption and for customers' use in disaster recovery plan testing. The Thurmont, MD, facility, operational on a 24 x 7 basis, is linked to Comdisco's 29 North American recovery facilities via CDRS Net(R), Comdisco's SONET-based, dedicated fiber network that employs ATM and other high-speed communications technologies.

Dennis Dracup, vice president, general manager of Print and Mail Recovery Services for Moore, says the co-marketing agreement addresses a need in the marketplace that has previously gone unsatisfied. According to David Nolan, president, Comdisco Disaster Recovery Services, North America, the decision to extend capabilities to include access to these services was a timely one. "Our objective was to provide our customers services they had been missing in the areas of print and mail fulfillment," said Nolan. Previously, companies often planned to secure print and mail services at time of disaster through a reciprocal agreement with another company willing to share its capability. However, the equipment was available only during hours of low or no production. If the reciprocal partner was locally based, and the disaster regional in nature, flooding or power outages for example, their equipment may not be operational, leaving both parties without services. Another option was through vendors who sell and resell excess capacity, but clients with daily requirements routinely take precedence over the disaster-only subscriber. In either example, a company's exposure was significant.

Moore conducted eight months of market research and sought input from 50 clients during the development of its print and mail business recovery services. A large, West Coast-based insurance company beta tested the capability before Comdisco pledged its involvement.
