In his new position, Pontikes will continue to have executive management responsibility for the majority of the company's operations, including its Financial Management Division, Technology Services Division, (which includes desktop management, business continuity and network management services), and Diversified diversified (di·verˑ·s  Technologies Group, (which includes electronics, healthcare, and laboratory and scientific groups). He has added responsibility for the company's sales force and European operations, and will continue to be responsible for its internal information technology group.

Pontikes joined Comdisco in July, 1992, and was named vice president, business controls, for the disaster recovery division in February, 1993. He was named president of the division in September, 1993. He was elected a director of the company in December, 1993, and an executive vice president and member of the office of the president in July, 1994. He became chief operating officer in November, 1997.

Prior to joining Comdisco, Pontikes was principal/owner of Avalon Capital Corporation, an investment company, from 1990 to 1992. He also worked in mergers and acquisitions for The Blackstone Group Blackstone Group L.P. (NYSE: BX) is a prominent private equity and investment management firm founded in 1985 by Peter G. Peterson and Stephen A. Schwarzman. The company is based in New York City, in River House on Park Avenue at Fifty-first Street, with offices in Atlanta,  from 1989 to 1990 and with Drexel Burnham Lambert Drexel Burnham Lambert was a major Wall Street investment banking firm, which first rose to prominence and then was driven into bankruptcy in the 1980s by its involvement in illegal activities in the junk bond market, driven by Drexel employee Michael Milken.  from 1985 to 1989.
