Comdisco Medical Equipment Group introduces Technology Life-Cycle Management Services.

ROSEMONT, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 25, 1995--Comdisco (Comdisco, Inc., Rosemont, IL, www.comdisco.com) A technology services company, originally founded as Computer Discount Company in 1969 by Ken Pontikes. By the mid 1990s, Comdisco had become one of the largest independent computer and electronics equipment leasing companies as well as a leader in asset management and business continuity services. By 1997, Comdisco provided help for more than 250 disaster recovery incidents. Medical Equipment Group Inc. today introduced a series of asset management services to help health-care providers reduce technology costs and risks, increase control, and improve productivity.

Comdisco's ``Technology Life-Cycle Management Services'' help hospitals address total-cost-of-ownership issues -- from planning and budgeting through acquisition, usage, and disposal -- for a broad range of high-tech equipment, including clinical, laboratory, computer, and telecommunications systems.

``In today's rapidly changing health-care market, technology is increasingly critical,'' said Kenneth A. Halverson, president of Comdisco Medical Equipment Group. ``In the struggle to control costs and improve technology use, some providers are outsourcing technology acquisition and management to equipment manufacturers, which means sacrificing control of an important strategic asset. Comdisco's services can dramatically reduce the costs and financial risks of ownership while helping hospitals to increase internal control over these widely dispersed assets, which is especially crucial for health-care networks.''

Comdisco's Technology Life-Cycle Management Services include:

- Technology Audit and Assessment -- Provides objective, comprehensive data on installed equipment by site and modality, comparing current utilization levels and costs to peer groups regionally and nationally. The goals are to reduce equipment acquisition and maintenance costs, improve usage and disposition across multiple locations, and address book-value and other financial issues.

- Planning -- These services range from financial planning (budgeting, forecasting, assessment of market and book values) to technology planning (equipment alternatives, upgrade paths, acquisition and disposal timing strategies, etc.).

- Upgrade Strategies -- Evaluation of how planned acquisitions impact upgrade paths -- both clinically and financially -- and assessment of options from multiple manufacturers.

- Financial Services -- Risk-sharing financial options that lower costs, preserve capital, and hedge against obsolescence. For example, Comdisco's Technology Risk Transfer program helps move rapidly depreciating assets off the balance sheet while providing capital for use in other strategic areas.

- Reconditioned Equipment -- As the world's first ISO 9002-certified reconditioner of medical equipment, Comdisco Medical Exchange can help significantly lower acquisition and maintenance costs while ensuring that high-quality clinical standards are maintained.

- Equipment Remarketing -- As the world's largest remarketer of high-tech equipment, Comdisco ensures maximum value for equipment no longer needed by your organization.

- Asset Management Services -- Comdisco Inc. offers a range of services that cut costs, reduce technology risks, and improve productivity. These can include CLASS(R), our industry-leading asset management software tool for the electronic ordering, tracking, and management of PCs, software, and a range of other high-tech assets.

``With all the changes occurring in health care, hospitals know they have to maintain maximum flexibility and control, especially when it comes to their high-tech assets,'' Halverson noted. ``With Comdisco's vendor-independence, diverse high-tech products, and more than two decades of experience, we've been able to help providers do just that.''
