Comdial Announces Preferred Alliance with Cendant Corporation.

Comdial's Impact Concierge System Recommended

Comdial Corporation (Nasdaq: CMDL) and Cendant Corporation (NYSE: CD) announced a preferred alliance agreement designating Comdial's Impact Concierge hospitality system as the recommended telecommunications system for certain Cendant hotel franchises.

These franchises include Wingate Inns(R), Days Inn(R), Ramada(R), Howard Johnson's(R), Knights Inn(R) and Villager Lodge(R). With over 6,000 hotels and 525,000 rooms, Cendant Corporation is the largest hotel franchisor in the world.

Comdial will target Wingate Inns(R), where the Company is one of only two recommended telecommunications vendors. Wingate Inns(R), Cendant's newest hotel offering, features over-sized rooms with amenities designed for the business traveler. Currently, there are 50 Wingate Inns(R) open throughout the United States, with plans to expand that number to approximately 250 by the end of the year 2000. The first system is expected to ship in late November.

In addition to these standard features, Comdial's design and engineering staff worked with Cendant's marketing department to add a unique set of features for Cendant's guests. These additional features include Air Impact (an in-building wireless phone system) and a fax server with fax mail. Comdial's vice president of sales, William C.
