Comdata third quarter highlights.

Comdata Holdings Corporation (NASDAQ:CMDT), a leading provider of transaction and information services, today reported results for the period ended September 30, 1995.

Revenue for the third quarter increased 14.5% over third quarter 1994 to $72.8 million, and resulted in net income of $8.7 million. The increase in third quarter revenue was adversely affected by the sale of the Retail division in February, which contributed $2.2 million in revenue for the three months ending September 30, 1994. Excluding the results of the Retail Division, revenue would have grown 19% for the quarter. In addition, while the Company's income before taxes increased 31%, net income growth was flat due to the effective income tax rate increasing from 8% to 30%. In 1994, the Company used most of its net operating loss carryforwards, which in past years had reduced income taxes. Earnings per share were $.24 for the third quarter of 1995, compared with $.26 earned in the third quarter of 1994.

Gaming revenues increased 26% in the quarter, and Transportation revenues increased 13%. Net income after taxes of $21.5 million for the nine months was up 6%, over the comparable period in 1994, and again was impacted by the higher effective tax rates. Operating margins for the year-to-date results increased from 25.3% to 26.3%, which produced earnings per share of $.62, versus $.63 earned a year ago.

According to George L. McTavish, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, The results for the third quarter were particularly satisfying, considering we had to absorb an increase of $600,000 for bad debt expense, primarily for the transportation business. During the quarter, we introduced a new point-of-sale (POS) system which offers significant automation to the fuel desk operations of lower volume truck stops. The previously announced merger with Ceridian Corporation is progressing well and we continue our integration process.
