Comcast Opens New South Jersey Regional Call Center In Voorhees.

VOORHEES, N.J., Sept. 10 /PRNewswire/ --
United States Senator Jon Corzine (D-NJ) joined a host of local and state elected officials and business leaders today to officially mark the opening of Comcast Cable Communications' new state-of-the art South Jersey Regional Call Center in Voorhees, NJ.
Comcast, New Jersey's leading provider of digital cable television and high-speed Internet services opened the 42,500 square foot facility to handle customer care for their 650,000 broadband customers in southern New Jersey. Comcast has invested over $5 million in the facility to date and is planning a more than $3 million expansion next year.
"This new call center represents a significant commitment to all of our customers and the communities that we serve in Southern New Jersey," said Comcast's Area Vice President Ruth Blank. Comcast has shown its strong confidence in the southern part of the Garden State by making this critical investment here," she said.
"Providing excellent customer service is more important now than it ever was," said Charles Garabedian, Comcast's senior director of call center operations. "We know that in order to succeed in an increasingly competitive environment, we have to provide the best customer service possible."
Approximately 85 customer care professionals recently relocated to the new call center from Comcast's offices in Cherry Hill. An additional 120 positions have already been created with a total of 570 employees scheduled to be working at the facility by the end of next year.
The South Jersey Regional Call Center, Comcast Corporation's newest, utilizes state-of-the-art computer and telephone technology to enable customers to easily access the company's trained, professional customer care professionals twenty-four hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week. The customer account executives are equipped with a variety of innovative tools on their desktops allowing them to rapidly access customer account information such as contact history, available pricing packages and complete channel lineups, as well as information to help them respond to a wide range of customer inquiries.
The call center features custom workstations, advanced training and development facilities and a number of employee amenities designed to create a pleasant working environment.
In addition to 570 individual workstations, the call center features:
-- A 60 seat auditorium with video conferencing capabilities,
-- Four computerized training "classrooms,"
-- A high-tech "bridge" overlooking the call-center for traffic flow
-- An employee lounge with high-speed Internet access,
-- A 1,250 sq. ft. employee gymnasium featuring weights cardio vascular
fitness machines, and aerobic classes, and
-- A full service cafeteria shared with neighboring tenant.
Calls from Comcast's customers are being phased into the South Jersey Regional Call Centers as follows:
-- Calls from customers served by Comcast Garden State (formerly Garden
State Cable) and Comcast of Lambertville (formerly Suburban / Bridge
Cable) are currently being answered in Voorhees, as are overnight calls
from Comcast of Burlington County's customers.
-- By October 2001, all calls from customers of Comcast of Burlington
County as well as overnight calls from Comcast of Gloucester County and
Comcast of Mercer County customers will be answered in Voorhees.
-- By the end of this year, all calls from customers of Comcast of South
Jersey (formerly Lenfest's Suburban Cable) will be answered in Vorhees.
-- During the first half of 2002, all calls from customers served by

The business community in Southern New Jersey heralded the opening of the call center and welcomed Comcast's investment in the region.

DiLorenzo. "It isn't every day that a company opens a facility to enhance its customer service efforts with the promise of creating close to 600 jobs," she said.
