DENVER, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 11, 1996--Ushering in the new age of set-top-based interactive program guides, TV Guide On Screen and Comcast Cable Communications Inc., have announced the launch of TV Guide On Screen's interactive guide in Comcast's Southgate system in suburban Detroit.

2200 advanced analog set-top is scheduled to roll out in another suburban Detroit area Comcast system, this one in Fraser, Mich. in the very near future. TV Guide On Screen is the first independent software provider to deliver an application to GI for the CFT2200 for commercial deployment. Plans call for GI to deliver nearly 10,000 of the new converters.

Commenting on the announcement, Geof Rochester, Comcast's senior vice-president for sales and marketing noted, "We are excited to be in the vanguard Vanguard

of providing customer-focused products to our subscribers. The flawless introduction of the guide in Southgate is a credit to TV Guide On Screen's expertise in the launch process. The turnkey See turnkey system.  solution and professionalism of their launch team has resulted in virtually no trouble calls to our customer support center. A phone survey of early customer installs indicated a great deal of excitement and satisfaction with the new service."

Kate Ebli, general manager of the Southgate system added, "We are extremely pleased to be able to offer Southgate subscribers TV Guide On Screen's interactive guide. The guide puts the control and choice of TV watching in the hands of the consumer -- not the programmer (1) A hardware device used to customize a programmable logic chip such as a PAL, GAL, EPROM, etc. See PROM programmer.

(2) A person who designs the logic for and writes the lines of codes of a computer program.
. This is the most advanced, full featured guide available today, and we are especially pleased to be the first cable system in the country to be able to offer it to our subscribers."

Among the many significant features of the interactive guide is the "Parental Lock." While recent legislation has mandated the V-Chip for parental control, that particular piece of hardware will not be available for some time, and will be installed only in new television sets. TV Guide On Screen's interactive guide allows subscribers in the Detroit area Comcast systems to block out programming that they may not find appropriate. Programming can be blocked by channel, time and rating, giving parents effective, broad and sophisticated control over their children's access to programming in their homes.

what it is or how long it will last, the Flip feature will automatically identify the title and duration of each channel's current program in a non-intrusive overlay (1) A preprinted, precut form placed over a screen, key or tablet for identification purposes. See keyboard template.

"The features which our interactive guide supplies are designed to provide maximum benefit to both subscribers and cable operators," added Larry Miller. "Using the guide, the subscriber can navigate (1) "Surfing the Web." To move from page to page on the Web.
