"After more than a decade at Merck & Co., Dr. Caporale possesses extensive experience in fostering partnerships between small drug- discovery companies and large pharmaceutical corporations," said Curtis.

"In her previous position, she was actively involved in assessing and acquiring drug-discovery technologies and coordinating strategic responses to breakthrough areas of science including the emergence of the combinatorial-chemistry field. Her decision to leave Merck to join CombiChem reflects her assessment of our unique comprehensive approach to combinatorial chemistry Combinatorial chemistry involves the rapid synthesis or the computer simulation of a large number of different but structurally related molecules.  and drug discovery."

Prior to her appointment as senior director, Caporale held positions as director, scientific evaluation, and senior research fellow at Merck. Previously, she was an assistant professor of biochemistry, Georgetown University Georgetown University, in the Georgetown section of Washington, D.C.; Jesuit; coeducational; founded 1789 by John Carroll, chartered 1815, inc. 1844. Its law and medical schools are noteworthy, and its archives are especially rich in letters and manuscripts by and  Schools of Medicine and Dentistry; a research associate at Rockefeller University; and an associate researcher at Memorial/Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

Caporale is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), private organization devoted to furthering the work of scientists and improving the effectiveness of science in the promotion of human welfare. , the New York Academy of Sciences The New York Academy of Sciences is the third oldest scientific society in the United States. Caporale received her doctorate in molecular biology molecular biology, scientific study of the molecular basis of life processes, including cellular respiration, excretion, and reproduction. The term molecular biology was coined in 1938 by Warren Weaver, then director of the natural sciences program at the Rockefeller  from the University of California, Berkeley The University of California, Berkeley is a public research university located in Berkeley, California, United States. CombiChem's automated synthesis systems will have the advantage of being able to generate sufficient quantities of sample compounds to facilitate comprehensive and efficient screening and archiving of material. In addition, the company's libraries will be in structural classes designed to be of interest to pharmaceutical companies.

"Dr. Caporale will assist me in our efforts to establish collaborations and alliances with major pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical companies. Through these corporate relationships, we plan to offer customized combinatorial-chemistry services and products, license our automated compound synthesis systems, and transfer certain elements of our drug-discovery technology," added Curtis.

"With the knowledge gained from the human genome project and the advances made in molecular modeling and rational drug design, we anticipate CombiChem's technology will serve to significantly close the gap between identifying a molecular target for disease intervention and the eventual discovery of an active therapeutic agent."

CombiChem is a molecular-discovery company integrating combinatorial chemistry with computational drug design, bioinformatics and automated chemical synthesis to identify, optimize and enable broader patent protection for new pharmaceuticals.

The company is designing and synthesizing libraries of low-molecular-weight, druglike molecules in formats that are compatible with the full spectrum of assay methods.
