"HSDPA is already being adopted worldwide and will be in wide use by the end of 2006," says Greg Maton, senior vice president and GM for Comarco Wireless Test Solutions. "As has always been the case, Comarco test systems and scanners are ready to evaluate and implement the latest technologies as soon as they go into serious trials. Our new offering can handle everything from RF planning, competitive benchmarking, installation and pre-launch testing, to shakedowns, maintenance and QoS monitoring."

HSDPA is Very Fast

HSDPA is said to be the fastest (up to 14.4 Mbps theoretical maximum speed) downlink technology that is currently available worldwide. It is generally thought to be the next major advance in wireless packet-based data service. By comparison, the current leader for packet-based data service is Ev-DO (Evolution Data Only) technology, with typical downlink speeds of 500 to 700 kbps and theoretical maximum speeds of 2 Mbps. The uplink version of HSDPA, HSUPA (High Speed Uplink Packet Access) See HSPA.  (High Speed Uplink Packet Access) service is generally thought to be one to two years in the future but Comarco intends to add this to its portfolio when devices become available.
