ComStream demodulator shipments top 1 million as sole source for RCA DSSI direct-to-home satellite receiver.

At the heart of the video demodulator are several ComStream custom-designed integrated circuits that decode and demodulate To isolate a data signal from a carrier wave. The demodulation circuit uses the unmodulated carrier as a reference signal and compares it to the received signal. See modulation and carrier.

The DSS receiver/decoder and small "pizza-sized" dish antenna are used to receive new direct-to-home television services. The receiver is marketed in the United States by more than 10,000 retail outlets under the RCA brand name. The Digital Satellite System was introduced in mid-June last year, and is acknowledged as the most successful consumer electronics product launch in history, surpassing first-year sales of the video cassette recorder video cassette recorder
