ComStream awarded $1.4 million contract by Spectrocan for Indonesian Ministry of Post and Telecommunications; SCPC VSAT network to communicate radio frequency information from remote locations.


SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 15, 1996--ComStream Corp. Monday announced that the company has been awarded a contract by Spectrocan Engineering Inc. to provide a satellite communications network The transmission channels interconnecting all client and server stations as well as all supporting hardware and software.  to the Indonesian Ministry of Post and Telecommunications.

The network will carry monitored information on the power and frequency of TV and radio transmission throughout the nation. The contract award is valued at $1.4 million and implementation has commenced.

 for the licensing and monitoring of radio transmissions. The Indonesian Ministry has requirements to monitor all radio traffic for technical compliance to licensing and frequency regulations. This involves TV and radio stations as well as government service departments such as the police and fire departments.

Information is collected from remote locations and communicated back to Ministry headquarters in Jakarta.

According to Salvatore Benti, vice president, networks and broadcast for ComStream, "Spectrocan joins our long list of satellite network customers in Asia, including Singapore Telecom, Hong Kong Telecom, Samart of Thailand and others. We are pleased that Spectrocan has chosen ComStream's solution."

ComStream is providing a VSAT (Very Small Aperture satellite Terminal) A small earth station for satellite transmission that handles up to 56 Kbits/sec of digital transmission. VSATs that handle the T1 data rate (up to 1.544 Mbits/sec) are called "TSATs.  satellite network consisting of 24 terminals located at sites throughout the country. Each site will have a terminal and modem which will be linked through an antenna via satellite to the main terminal. This network will initially carry data information and discussions are underway to add a voice capability which can easily be added in the future.
