ComEd's LaSalle Unit 1 at 100% Power

CHICAGO, Aug. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- ComEd today announced that its LaSalle County Unit 1 reached 100% power this morning. With LaSalle Unit 1 back online, nine of 10 ComEd nuclear units are now generating electricity to meet customer demands.

"LaSalle Station once again is adding significantly to the power grid this week to help meet our customer electricity demands," said Fred Dacimo, LaSalle Station site vice president. "With the unit at 100% power, our extensive
testing program that began with the unit startup on Aug. 1 is concluded. The unit is now available to ComEd for full power operations. We look forward to safe and economical operations for a long time."

ComEd shut down both LaSalle units in September 1996 to address longstanding performance issues and equipment problems. Since that time, personnel have completed significant improvements to programs and systems at the plant.

LaSalle County Station is located in LaSalle County in northeastern Illinois. The town of Seneca, Ill., is the closest town, located approximately 5 miles northeast of the station. Unit 1 and Unit 2 began commercial operation on Jan. 1, 1984 and Oct. 19, 1984. There are approximately 860 ComEd employees at the plant.
