Com21 Ships Low-Cost ComCONTROLLER 2000 Headend Switch; Technology Provides Entry-Level Cable Modem Solution for Small Cable Systems, Hotels or Schools.

MILPITAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 15, 1998--Com21 Inc. (NASDAQ:CMTO) announced availability today of a low-cost ComCONTROLLER 2000 headend switch for cable modem communications.

Com21 also announced the availability of a suite of headend products extending the ComUNITY Access family. These products include a 100Base-T Interface Module, a Return Path Multiplexer (RPM) a multi-port RF switch, and an enhanced NMAPS 2.3 (Network Management and Provisioning System).

The entry-level 6-slot ComCONTROLLER 2000 provides the cable operator with the same functionally as Com21's existing 11-slot ComCONTROLLER product. Both Chassis support the same modules and has the same features such as QoS (Quality of Service), Multi-tier pricing classes, Private and Secure Virtual Networks, and Multi-Protocol Support. However, the ComCONTROLLER 2000 occupies half the rack space at a significantly lower price.
