Columbus Avenue re-enters the city's hot nightlife scene.


Once known as the heart of the wild, wild Westside, Columbus Avenue has regained its stature stature /sta·ture/ (stach´ur) the height or tallness of a person standing.stat´ural

 reflective of the upscale, family-oriented neighborhood, announces Barbara Adler, executive director of the Columbus Avenue Business Improvement District (BID), which spans West 67th Street to West 82nd Street.

 activity was in the 1970s and early 1980s when the neighborhood was not as safe or diverse," said Adler. "But today, it is a vibrant retail corridor that attracts people from all over and the chic restaurants, wine bars and entertainment venues are welcome additions."

The recently opened Columbus 72, just off the southwest corner of the Avenue at West 72nd Street, is a nightclub and private party space in which live bands play for a wide variety of occasions. Bin 71 (235 Columbus), a popular wine bar that opened a couple years ago, was recently joined by Wine & Roses (286 Columbus), and both are providing a broad selection of fine wines and light fare to dedicated crowds of discerning dis·cern·ing

) destinations within the Columbus Avenue BID include: North West restaurant and lounge, the Moroccan-inspired Shalel and Kama Lounge which join such long established late night emporiums as Peter's, City Grill and Isabella's.

Several of the traditional Upper West Side pubs and lounges also continue to flourish, including the ever popular Dive 75, Emerald Inn, Burton Pub and Malachy's Donegal Inn. Many of the 44 restaurants in the BID district feature extended dining hours, especially on weekends.
