Columbia Sportswear Signs License Agreement With Humphreys Inc. for Belts and Small Leather Goods; Outdoor Apparel Leader Expands Product Line For Fall 2000.

), maker of high quality outdoor apparel and footwear, today announced it has entered into a license agreement with Humphreys, Inc. to design, manufacture and market apparel belts and small personal leather accessories.

The extensive collection will be available in stores for Fall 2000.

Columbia Sportswear estimates the size of the market for belts and personal leather goods in independent chains and departments stores alone represent a $54.5 million business this year. Columbia decided to pursue a license agreement rather than bring the category in-house because of the unique characteristics of the leather goods manufacturing process. "Humphreys has proven itself an expert in the leather goods field. Manufacturing leather goods doesn't fit into Columbia's competency COMPETENCY, evidence.
