Columbia Sportswear Company Announces Management Changes.

PORTLAND, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 25, 2002

Columbia Sportswear(R), a global leader in the active outdoor apparel and footwear industry, announces the retirement of Don Santorufo, Chief Operating Officer.

His retirement is effective December 2002.

Santorufo joined Columbia in 1979 as purchasing and production manager. He was promoted to Vice President of Manufacturing in 1983 and launched the Company's Asian manufacturing operation, establishing quality control offices in critical markets. He was named Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer in 1995.

Santorufo will remain with the Company until the end of the year to see several long-term projects through to completion.

Executives Promoted

Columbia's Board of Directors appointed Pat Anderson, the Company's Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, to the position of Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. Anderson joined Columbia in 1992 as the financial reporting manager, and was promoted to Corporate Controller one year later. In 1996 Anderson was appointed Chief Financial Officer and in 2001 named Vice President of Finance and Administration in addition to Treasurer and Assistant Secretary. Anderson worked as an accountant with Deloitte and Touche LLP from 1985 to 1992.

Anderson graduated from the University of Oregon in 1981 with a B.S. in Geology and completed post-baccalaureate studies in accounting at Portland State University. In 1988 he became a licensed Certified Public Accountant in the State of Oregon.

Bryan Timm, Columbia's Corporate Controller, has been named Chief Financial Officer. Prior to joining Columbia Sportswear in 1997, Timm was the Divisional Controller for CF&I, Oregon Steel Mill's largest division. From 1991 to 1995 he was the Manager of Internal Audit for Oregon Steel Mills. Timm worked as an accountant with KMPG Peat Marwick from 1986 to 1991. His extensive public company experience made him a key advisor in Columbia's initial public offering.

Timm graduated from the University of Idaho in 1986 with a B.S. in Accounting and is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in the State of Oregon.
