Colubris Unveils the First WLAN Fixed-Mobile Convergence Platform With Distributed Intelligence; Enables Truly Scalable, Managed FMC Services based on both IMS and UMA.

WALTHAM, Mass. -- Colubris, a leading wireless LAN (WLAN) solutions provider, announced today the availability of a comprehensive WLAN solution set for the delivery of fixed-mobile convergence services (FMC) by telecommunications carriers. Available today and already in trials with several tier-1 carriers around the globe, this solution set provides the first WLAN platform for FMC with distributed intelligence thus enabling the delivery of truly scalable managed FMC services to the enterprise. Colubris also announced its recent membership in the MobileIGNITE consortium to help further drive the interoperability of standards-based convergence solutions across the industry.

An enterprise-grade WLAN infrastructure, the Colubris Intelligent MultiService System (CIMS) has been enhanced with a comprehensive set of carrier features for delivering a full spectrum of next generation communications services via Wi-Fi and a broadband fixed line network. It enables carriers to deploy managed FMC services in enterprises of any size, delivering improved enterprise user productivity and cost optimization.

Leveraging its success in the carrier WLAN market, Colubris offers its FMC solutions globally to tier-1 carriers through channels developed over five years for the delivery of public WLAN access solutions. Colubris' worldwide reseller agreement with Alcatel (NYSE:ALA), and agreements with other major systems integrators, give carriers the services and support needed to successfully roll out FMC services powered by CIMS.

Based on the TriPlane Architecture, CIMS is scalable to large distributed networks comprising thousands of locations and associated WLAN infrastructure. It is the first WLAN solution to use distributed intelligence to provide the seamless roaming between WLAN access points and end-to-end QoS that are critical for simultaneous delivery of voice data and video applications. CIMS includes centralized management that enables telecommunications carriers to easily deploy, provision and manage the system from a network operations center. Intelligent access points at the edge of the network deliver scalable performance and support for the delivery of multiple WLAN services. A strong RF security capability secures the WLAN and protects networks from fraud, denial of service and other vulnerabilities.

The Colubris solution set for FMC is comprised of the Colubris InCharge Network Management System (NMS) and RF Manager, which allow service providers to centrally operate and troubleshoot the entire WLAN infrastructure; InMotion MultiService Controllers (MSC) and InReach MultiService access points (MAP) which are installed at enterprise customer locations. The InMotion MSC coordinates the InReach MAPs to ensure consistent voice quality and deliver other corporate applications. Integrated radio frequency (RF) sensors secure the system and maximize performance by automatically detecting and preventing unauthorized Wi-Fi activities. Together, these Colubris products play a central role in allowing carriers to offer services based on both the Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA) and IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) standards for fixed-mobile convergence.
