Colts are usurped at the top by Rhos.Byline: DAVE JONES
WELSH NATIONAL The Welsh National is a Grade 3 National Hunt horse race in the United Kingdom for five-year-old and above horses. It is run over a distance of 3 miles 5½ furlongs (5,934 metres) at Chepstow Racecourse, Wales in late December. LG UNBEATEN Rhos Aelwyd went top of the Welsh National League Premier Division with a convincing 3-1 win over previous leaders Castell Alun Colts. Ben Jones did all the damage in the first half at Ponciau Banks, scoring three goals including a cracker into the top corner to end the stalemate on 10 minutes. Richard Driffield replied for Castell in the second period with a 20-yard pearler, but this was always going to be Aelwyd's day. Rhos players, management and committee dedicated the victory to the memory of Owain Davies, son of club photographer Paul and brother of players Steffan and Nefyn who sadly passed during the week. |
