with Xerox Corp. on Monday announced the Xerox Network Server PLUS 3.0, the new network digital print server from Xerox.

The Network Server PLUS 3.0 is the first product ever to support multiple Xerox DocuTech 135 Network Publishers and a single DocuColor 40 Digital Color Production Systems from the same server.

The capabilities of the Network Server PLUS 3.0 include a unique new graphical interface See GUI.  supporting mixed color and black-and-white pages within a single job stream, ability to define "virtual" queues for each physical device, plus job replication In database management, the ability to keep distributed databases synchronized by routinely copying the entire database or subsets of the database to other servers in the network.

In addition, the hardware platform for server combines state-of- the-art server technology, scalability from one to four CPUs, and numerous storage and networking options. The faster RIP speeds, concurrent RIP capabilities plus the automated au·to·mate

"Colorbus' partnership with Xerox to develop the Network Server PLUS 3.0 allows us to design a server that optimizes the capabilities of Xerox's production printers, creates new color opportunities in publishing and in keeping with Colorbus' original philosophy, meet customer requirements for scalability and investment protection," said Paul Peffer, president and chief executive officer of Colorbus.

In response to market demand for increased color integration and productivity, Xerox tapped the advanced technology and development team at Colorbus to develop its next generation of networkable Adobe adobe (ədō`bē): see rammed earth.

Colorbus and Xerox co-developed the product under an exclusive development and distribution agreement signed earlier this year. Xerox will market and support the new server, which will be covered under the Xerox Total Satisfaction Guarantee.

"The rules of the game are changing. A few years ago, black-and-white print on demand from DocuTech offered a competitive advantage," said Steve A. Graham, vice president and general manager, Production Publishing Solutions, Xerox Corp. "Now that advantage comes from incorporating color on DocuTech at black-and- white production printing speed."

By mid-1995, Cyclones offered connectivity to two color copiers and a large format output device creating high productivity digital production environments. Today, Colorbus supports more than 31 output devices from seven different manufacturers.

Pricing and Availability

The Xerox Network Server PLUS 3.0 will be available in 1997. Pricing for the product is expected to range from $60,000 to $150,000, depending on configuration. Exact pricing will be announced at the time of shipment.
