Holcobatch is a nondusting and free-flowing pigment dispersion for coloring a broad range of polymers and elastomers. A spherical particle with a diam. of 500 to 700 microns, it is totally dispersed in a nonpolymer-based carrier and produces consistent color development. It is universal among polymers and elastomers--color pigment is dispersed in a carrier that itself is not plastic, which allows use in virtually any application--and is completely dispersed. A thin layer of patented carrier surrounds the pigment to prevent reagglomeration. No predrying is required, and the low melt point of the carrier releases the pigment into the system at 180 F. Because of the prill size, dispersion and low melt point of the carrier, letdown ratios are often less than 100:1.

Custom concentrates are produced for acrylic, cellulose acetate, PP, nylon, and polyester fibers. Concentrates also available for PP ribbon and slit film. High-performance pigments in universal dry-color concentrates are said to be particularly heat and light resistant.

Suited for engineering thermoplastics, dyes can be used with opacifying agents to replace heavy-metal pigments. Ceres oil dyes can be used to color waxes and polymers processed at intermediate temperatures, and reportedly offer economy, brilliant shades, and high tinting strength.

High-performance organic pigments include perylenes from red to maroon, quinacridone reds, magentas and violets, specialty yellows and oranges, and phthalocyanine blues and greens.

Bayferrox pigments are synthetic iron oxides in red, yellow and black. Micronized grades are said to provide excellent dispersability and high tinting strength when compared to non-micronized. Bayferrox AC-5069 and version PK-5087 are for systems with processing temperatures of 400-500 F. Reportedly excellent heat stability of Bay-ferrox 3950 allows for use where high processing temperatures restrict or limit yellow iron oxides.

MILLIKEN CHEMICAL CO.

Supplies liquid colorants for polyurethane. Reactint colorants are reactive, polymeric colorants for use in both ether and ester urethanes. They are homogeneous, low-viscosity solutions said to be easier to use than pigments.

BondTint colorants are reactive, polymeric colorants for urethane bonded underlay. Can be used as blends or with a three-stream, blend on-the-fly system.

ClearTint transparent colorants for polyolefins available as pelletized concentrate reportedly are bright, clear, nonbleeding and nonmigrating. Because they are nonnucleating, shrinkage or warpage is reportedly eliminated.

Advantage opaque color concentrates are for polyolefins, and because they do not nucleate, they do not affect part dimensions or cause warpage.

MINERAL PIGMENTS CORP.

Inorganic pigments include synthetic and natural iron oxides designed for maximum ease of dispersion, and high-heat-stable browns and tans specially formulated for thermoplastics.
