ACCURATE COLOR, INC.

Manufactures a line of colorants and multifunctional additive dispersions. Concentrates, liquid colors, dry colors, and dustless dry colors are available for most polymers. The dustless grades reportedly improve uniformity when used with automated metering equipment. Color concentrates from 200 to 20,000 lb with high pigment loadings are the firm's specialty. AMPACET CORP.

Offers a full range of color and additive concentrates, including degradable products, with over 7000 standard and proprietary formulations on file. Company specializes in concentrates for polyolefins such as LDPE, HDPE, homopolymer and copolymer PP. Universal concentrates are also supplied for use with engineering thermoplastics. Special concentrates designed to comply with FDA and USDA regulations are available.

Applications include extrusion coating, blown and cast film, injection and blow molding, pipe, profile, mono- and multifilament fiber extrusion, and automotive uses. Company also offers pigment/additive concentrates tailored for use in granular and pelletized LLDPE grades.

MD BOTH INDUSTRIES

Supplies metallic pigments: bronze, copper, and aluminum powders and pastes are offered in various shades of gold and bronze. Both powders and pastes include grades of gold bronze, specialty, tarnish-resistant, and copper industrial powders. A line of 14 different grades of aluminum pastes and powders in particle sizes ranging from 25 to 6 microns is also available.

BREEN COLOR CONCENTRATES, INC.

CAROLINA COLOR CORP.

Specializes in custom concentrates, dry, and liquid colors for most thermoplastics, including PE, PP, PS, ABS, SAN, and other engineering resins.

Company offers computer color matching services and custom formulations that can include uv stabilizers, antistats and antioxidants, as well as custom formulations to satisfy FDA and USDA requirements. Manufacturing plants are in Salisbury, N.C., and Lancaster, Tex.

CHROMA CORP.

Offers a line of standard blacks, whites, and 25 other opaque and transparent color concentrates for most thermoplastics. Ten FDA-approved black concentrates are available for a variety of polymers from ABS to PE.

A special line of colorants is said to offer excellent dispersion in fast-cycling processes. Such systems can be tailored to specific processes and end uses.

CHROMA-TEK

Offers its Chroma-Tek line of liquid color dispersions. Masstones and custom color matching are offered in monomer-free reactive unsaturated polyesters, epoxies, polyether and polyester urethanes.

CHROMATICS, INC.

Offers color concentrates for all fluorocarbon types, including CTFE, ECTFE, ETFE, FEP, PEEK, PES, PFA, PTFE and PVDF.

CIBA-GEIGY CORP. PIGMENTS DIV.

Company's inorganic and organic pigments include specialty quinacridone and mixed-metal oxide pigments. The mixed-metal oxides, manufactured by Drakenfeld, reportedly withstand high-temperature processing and are especially suited to engineering plastics.

Also offered are specialty lines of heavy-metal-free organic pigments such as Cromophtal, Irgazin, and Irgalite. Specialties include Filester pigments for extruded and injection molded polyester, Microlith pigment dispersions (Cromophtal and Irgazin pigments), and Orasol dyes for use in transparent acrylic and styrene polymers. The Cromophtal line of colorants, 13 pigments in all, are FDA-approved for food-contact applications and toys.

COLONIAL PLASTICS

Offers a wide range of black and white concentrates for use in LDPE, LLDPE, homopolymer and copolymer PP, PS, and a universal carrier. Specific grades are available for film, sheet, blown film, profiles, pipe, and injection molding applications as well as uv concentrate. Also offers custom bulk color concentrates. Headquarters are located in Dyersburg, Tenn., with additional operations in Kingstree, S.C.

COLOR FORMULATORS, INC.

Manufactures pigment dispersions in pellets or nondusting powders for PP, nylon and PET fibers and plastics. Organic pigments are dispersed in suitable carriers, and are furnished in pigment loadings up to 50%.

Additionally, a line of flushed colors dispersed in LDPE is available. Their ease of dispersion and fine particle size reportedly provide an alternative to the use of dry color in the manufacture of PE color concentrates.

COLOR-CHEM INTERNATIONAL

Manufactures and markets its Amaplast line of specialty solvent dyes, which have high performance (light, thermal, weather, migration, stability) when applied particularly to acrylic, polycarbonate, ABS, PPS, Nylon, and PBT. Based on company's studies, dyes are also suitable for coloring the nonpolar plastics (PE and PP) in the presence of specialized carriers.

COLORCO, INC.

Offers color concentrates and dry colors custom-matched for most engineering thermoplastics. Colorants are offered for all applications, including extrusion, injection molding, and blow molding. Colors are formulated to meet individual specifications regarding toxicity, lightfastness, weathering, or rheological requirements. They range from every-day reds and blues to exotic metallics, pearls, fluorescents, and phosphorescents.

COLORCON

Produces a variety of FD&C aluminum lake pigments for plastic packaging materials used in direct contact with food. They are used in plastic films, molded or extruded products, containers, and liners. The pigments reportedly eliminate the concern of color migration, as well as other problems associated with nonfood-approved colorants. Company's Colorcon HT (high tint) Lakes are said to deliver intense colors, along with a reduction in material requirements.

Company also offers technical-service support, such as color matching and laboratory analysis of customer's products, as well as in-plant field assistance, working directly with customer personnel on-site.

Manufactures color and additive concentrates, specializing in blown film, blow molding, injection molding, and sheet extrusion. Facilities are in Brampton, Ont. and Morristown, Tenn.

COLORWEL CONCENTRATES LTD.

Canadian firm that specializes in custom color concentrates and dry color for all thermoplastic resins. Manufactures custom additive packages and specialty thermoplastic color concentrates, including pearlescents, flourescents, phosphorescents and metallics. Computer-assisted color matching and quality control programs ensure cost-effective "best" matches under all light conditions and maintenance of accuracy and reproducibility batch-to-batch in production.

COLUMBIAN CHEMICALS, CO.

Supplies its line of Raven carbon blacks for both pigment and conductive applications and for uv protection. Its Ultra carbon blacks are high-purity grades. Conductex 975 Ultra and SC Ultra are recommended for conductive applications. Raven 2000 is recommended for high-jetness plastics applications and Raven 430 for high-quality concentrates. Raven C Ultra is recommended for uv protection.

The Mapico Division also supplies Mapico yellow, red, and black iron oxides in a range of shades, plus a unique line of heat-stable tan pigments.

CONAP INC.

Conap DS-1830 series of color pastes contains inorganic pigments to provide resistance to heat and light. These color dispersions are compatible with epoxy and urethane systems, and have been designed to mix in equally well with either low- or high-viscosity systems.

COOK COMPOSITES & POLYMERS CO.

Pigment pastes are supplied for use in polyester molding compounds and gel coats. Features are said to include good handling properties, high compatibility, full color development with minimal mixing, light and weather stability, absence of solvents, stable color in molding, and a minimal effect on cure rate or catalyzed pot life. A wide variety of tints reportedly may be obtained by adding white without changing the above characteristics.

COOKSON PIGMENTS, INC.

Organic and inorganic pigments offered include low-dust lead chromate yellows and lead molybdate oranges. The following products are available: encapsulated "Krolor" heat- and chemical-resistant types, "Watchung" BON and Red 2B azos, phthalocyanine greens and blues, "Dalamar" Hansa and toluidene yellows.

New pigments recently introduced:

Computer-matched color concentrates are supplied for PS, polyolefins, and all other thermoplastic molding and extrusion resins, including engineering plastics. They are offered in pellets that are easily handled in automatic hopperblending equipment.

CUSTOM CHEMICALS CORP.

Company's line of color concentrates and compounds are supplied as micropulverized powder, granules, pellets, random chip, cubes, and dustless powders of classified particle size. They are used in PVC, CAB, PE, PP, TP polyesters, ABS, nylon, acrylic, polycarbonate, or other resins.

It can be used to color a wide variety of thermoplastic resins and yields a good black color when used at low levels. Because of its reportedly excellent tinting strength, Deerblack 5050 is recommended for changing mixed colors to black.

DEGUSSA CORP., PIGMENTS DIV.

Produces a wide range of high-color carbon blacks of the channel type for all types of plastics. In addition, Degussa supplies cadmium sulfide yellows, cadmium-selenium sulfide oranges and reds, which are said to be distinguished by their extreme lightfastness, heat stability, and resistance to acids and bases.

DISCAS, INC.

Supplies elastomeric-based color concentrates in HDPE, PP, EVA, and SBS (Kraton).

DOMINION COLOUR CO.

Manufactures color pigments for use in the plastics, printing inks and coatings industries. The range includes chrome yellow and molybdate orange pigments, as well as yellow, orange and red azo pigments. Grades of chrome yellow and molybdate orange are available with improved heat stability.

DU PONT CO.

Offers several grades of "Ti-Pure" titanium dioxide. These high-quality white pigments are specifically designed to provide a wide range of properties desired by the plastics compounder.

DYNEPCO INC.

Specializes in precolored compounds, matched dry colors and color concentrates for engineering thermoplastics, including plastics such as nylon, TP polyesters, and polycarbonate. Company offers particular expertise in compounding filled and reinforced resin systems. Colorants come in quantities of 100 lb and up.

EM INDUSTRIES, INC. PIGMENTS DIV.

Manufactures Affair pearlescent pigments, which create visual enhancements on all quality finished products for packaging, printing inks, graphic arts and plastics.

Afflair Lustre Pigments come in many colors and particle-size variations. As an excellent alternative to metallic flake pigments, these inert, environmentally safe lustre pigments are compatible with water-based and solvent-based systems.

EASTMAN CHEMICAL PRODUCTS

Color concentrates are supplied for use in PP and PE. Epolene low-molecular-weight polyolefin waxes are also offered as raw materials for making color concentrates. Eastobrite OB-1 is used as an optical brightener in PE, nylon, PET, PVC and PS.

EBONEX CORP.

Company's bone black pigments are specialty products reportedly characterized by high masstone, easy dispersibility, low oil absorption and low cost. They are available as dry powder for incorporation into most plastic resin systems such as vinyls, polyesters, urethanes, epoxies and acrylics.

One grade, Cosmic Black FCG-1, has been approved by the FDA for food-contact applications. Product reportedly meets Food Chemicals Codex specifications and is consistent with section 175.300 (B)(1) for use in resinous and polymeric coatings.

CHARLES B. EDWARDS & CO., INC.

Custom colorant and additive compound manufacturer produces pellet concentrates, Color Flo liquid dispersions, and dry colors (unitized or bulk). Concentrates and liquid colors are produced for most thermoplastics, including engineering resins. A line of FDA-acceptable colorants is available in all three forms. Company can handle color concentrates and liquid systems in all sizes.

ENGELHARD CORP.

Specialty Minerals & Colors Group offers the following color pigments:

* Harshaw Meteor and Meteor Plus complex inorganic pigments for applications requiring heat resistance and exterior durability.

FERRO CORP. COLOR DIV.

High-performance inorganic pigments are available for use with most thermoplastic and thermoset resin systems. Pigments are especially recommended for engineering plastics and rigid PVC. The line includes cobalt blues and greens, chrome-iron-zinc browns, chrome-copper blacks, iron-free browns, IR blacks, nickel-titanate yellows, and chrome titanate yellows. Some of these pigments are heavy-metal-free as defined in the Food Chemical Codex.

Mixed-metal-oxide pigments engineered for rigid PVC siding and window profiles are said to offer excellent weatherability and lightfastness and to be chemically inert.

* V-777 and V-791 infrared-reflecting pigments reportedly minimize heat buildup when used as tinting blacks.

* V-9186 and V-9187 iron-free browns are compatible with rigid PVC.

* V-9229 cobalt titanate blue and F-5686 turquoise offer the chromaticity to match gray-blue shades.

* V-9415 nickel titanate yellow is said to provide excellent weatherability, chemical resistance, processability and lot-to-lot consistency. It is also said to have superior lightfastness and heat stability, suiting it to engineering plastics. When combined with selected organic pigments, V-9415 can be used to replace many lead and cadmium colors.

Division is also the exclusive North American distributor for ultramarine blue and violet pigments produced by Nubiola, S.A. of Barcelona, Spain.

FERRO CORP. HORIZON POLYMERS DIV.

Offers epoxy, polyester and silicone paste color concentrates, in both organic and inorganic pigments:

* Epoxy liquid-resin vehicle for epoxy paste reportedly will not plasticize epoxy compounds.

* Polyester paste is 100% solid and reportedly offers low viscosity and rapid wetting without plasticizing polyester resins.

* Silicone paste is thermally stable, relatively inert, noncorrosive, and compatible with most silicone rubber systems.

Company's color paste concentrates are laboratory-controlled to ensure uniformity of color, dispersion, viscosity, and fineness of grind.

FERRO CORP. PDI DIV.

Manufactures a complete range of liquid and paste dispersions for all thermoplastics and thermosets and supplies a diversified line of processing additives that can be incorporated into the color dispersions or sold separately. Colorants consist of pigments dispersed and finely ground into a range of six standard vehicles that are compatible with thermoplastics, polyester, epoxies, urethane polyester, urethane polyethers, plasticizers, and other resin systems. For proprietary systems, company will use customer's vehicle or devise an alternative product.

Pigments available include heat-stable, light-stable, organic, inorganic, pearlescent, and fluorescent types. All pigments are finely processed to wet out individual particles into colloidal suspension for high loadings (30% to 85% pigment), high letdown ratios, and maximum tinctorial strength. Multifunctional colorant packages can include antioxidants, uv light stabilizers, clarifiers, and a broad range of surface-effect additives.

Single-pigment base colors are maintained in stock for custom blending color matches rapidly in any quantity as small as 5 gal. Colors are computer matched by a spectophotometer for batch-to-batch consistency and to identify the pigment combination that produces any given color for the lowest possible cost.

Company also manufactures a peristaltic liquid-color pump for injection molding, blow molding, and extruding thermoplastics.

FERRO CORP., PLASTICS COLORANTS & DISPERSIONS DIV.

Offers thermoplastic color concentrates in pellet, liquid, and powder form for use in PP, PE, PS (g-p, impact, and flame-retardant), and ABS (g-p, transparent, and flame-retardant).

Company's line of concentrates for flame-retardant resins contains more than 20 colors, including the wood tones commonly used in TV cabinets. HILTON DAVIS CHEMICAL CO.

Organic pigment toners and high-solids presscakes for plastics include phthalo blue and green, diarylide and Hansa-type yellows, and various azo oranges and reds. Inorganic transparent iron oxides reportedly screen out harmful uv radiation and are said to help meet FDA requirements for food contact and provide an inexpensive means of pigmenting plastic bottles, medicine vials, film, and fiber.

Polytone colors, a line of pigments flushed in an unsaturated polyester vehicle, are recommended for pigmenting gel coats and fiberglass-reinforced thermoplastic and thermoset resins. Reported advantages include higher gloss, brightness, tinting strength, cleanliness, and degree of dispersion over traditional three-roll-milled color systems.

Auracote flushed colors, a line of pigments dispersed in PVC plasticizer, are intended for plastisols and flexible vinyls and are said to offer advantages in degree of dispersion, high gloss, and economy.

Microspin colors are a line of nondusting, free-flowing, powdered, resin-encased pigment particles, recommended for thermoplastics. These are also available in an F series, said to meet certain FDA requirements for use in contact with food.

HOECHST CELANESE CORP.

Produces a wide range of organic pigments and melt-soluble dyes for plastic applications. A complete range of plastic color concentrates are available for PP, polyester, and nylon fibers. The organic pigments, as well as the concentrates, include a range of yellows and reds with heat stability suitable for replacement of many inorganic pigments. Also included are the well known quinacridone reds, perylene reds, phthalocyanine blues or greens, and diarylide yellows and oranges.

HOLLAND COLORS AMERICAS INC.

Holcobatch is an encapsulated, nondusting and free-flowing pigment dispersion suitable for the coloring of a broad range of polymers and elastomers. It is totally dispersed in a nonpolymer-based carrier and produces consistent color development. Holcobatch features these advantages: universal among polymers and elastomers, complete dispersion, nondusting, free-flowing, no predrying required, accurate on-line metering, and letdown ratios well below 100:1.

J.M. HUBER CORP. ENGINEERED CARBONS DIV.

Both thermal and furnace grades of carbon black are offered as colorants and fillers for plastics. Electrically resistive and conductive carbon blacks are also manufactured.

HULS AMERICA, INC.

Polytrend EST series paste dispersions are designed for coloring polyester sheet and bulk molding compounds as well as gel coats. Vehicle is a specially designed, unsaturated, yet stable resin said to be completely reactive and widely compatible with polyesters. As a result, this series of colorants reportedly has minimal effects on physical properties of molded parts and permits great latitude in use level for producing colors from pastels to deep tones. These products reportedly also can be used in epoxies, castable urethanes, RIM, rigid PVC and polyolefin applications.

ICI RESINS US

Offers a complete line of phthalocyanine green and blue pigment toners and high-solids presscakes in 10 shades for all resin types. Included in this range are shades said to be the bluest and yellowest greens commercially available. Indanthrone vat blue is offered for use in specialty applications. Waxoline polymer-soluble dyes for use in acrylics and styrenics are also offered.

INDOL CHEMICAL CO.

Produces color concentrates and organic pigments. The color concentrates are geared for three specific market areas: automotive, fibers, and general plastics. In the automotive area, CAB, and PP color concentrates are available. In the fibers area, custom concentrates are produced for acrylic, cellulose acetate, PP, nylon, and polyester. Concentrates are also available for PP ribbon and slit film.

Organic pigments for plastics include a complete azo line, as well as flavanthrone, indanthrone, diazo, quinacridone, and phthalocyanine blue and green types. KERR-MCGEE CHEMICAL CORP.

Tronox titanium dioxide opaque white pigments are made in several grades for plastics use:

* Tronox CR-800 pigment is designed for general use where a yellow undertone is desired. It is chemically equivalent to CR-800 PG, which has a smaller particle size.

* Tronox CR-800 is said to disperse easily, is recommended for general use, and has a blue-white tint.

* Tronox CR-834 pigment is recommended for high tint strength and resistance to yellowing. It is said to be easily dispersed and has a blue-white masstone.

Both Titanox 2101 and 2160 promote good weathering characteristics, minimize chalking and gloss loss, and maximize retention of color and physicals. Titanox 2020 is for plastisols. The anatase grades, Titanox 1070 and 1072, are recommended for fiber delustering.

LANCER DISPERSIONS, INC.

The colorants are said to provide smooth, even textures, be compatible with virtually any epoxy formulation, and not require high-speed dispersion equipment. The dispersions are packaged in all sizes from half pints to drums.

J. MEYER & SONS INC.

Offers a wide range of color concentrates for polyolefins, PP, PS, SAN, ABS, vinyl, TP elastomers, and PVDF fluoropolymers, specializing in custom-designed formulations to comply with USDA and FDA requirements for food, drug and cosmetic packaging. Colors are formulated to customer specifications, utilizing computer color matching. Additive packages can include lubricants, antistats, uv stabilizers, and anti-oxidants. Concentrates are supplied in granular and pelletized form from 50 lb to truckload quantities.

MICA-TEK, INC.

This new subsidiary of Franklin Industries offers coated-mica pigments designed to produce a choice of glittering, non-glitter, speckled and granite-like effects in thermoplastics and thermosets. Products are produced by chemical and heat treatments, which convert mica to a "champagne" gold color, as well as metalizing the mica, dyeing it, or coating it with pigmented polymer or other media. These nondusting pigments are intended to compete with colored nylon fibers, thermoplastic colored chips, and perhaps metal-flake pigments. Grades in development include silver, gold, black, green, red, yellow and blue.

MILES INC.

Offers an extensive range of organic pigments and dyes. Macrolex dyes are said to offer heat stability, high tinting strength, and clean shades. Suited for engineering thermoplastics, Macrolex dyes may be used with opacifying agents to replace heavy-metal pigments. Ceres oil dyes may be used to color waxes and polymers processed at intermediate temperatures. The Ceres dyes reportedly offer economy, brilliant shades, and high tinting strength.

High-performance organic pigments include a full range of perylenes from red to maroon, quinacridone reds, magentas and violets, specialty yellows and oranges, and phthalocyanine blues and greens.

Company's Bayferrox pigments represent a full line of high-quality synthetic iron oxides available in red, yellow and black. The micronized grades are said to provide excellent dispersability and high tinting strength when compared to nonmicronized. Bayferrox AC-5069 and the new version PK-5087 have been developed for systems where processing temperatures of 400-500 F are necessary. The reportedly excellent heat stability of Bayferrox 3950 allows its use in such plastics where high processing temperatures restrict or limit the use of yellow iron oxides.

MILLIKEN CHEMICAL CO.

Supplies a full line of colorants for polyurethane. Reactint colorants are reactive, polymeric colorants that can be used in both ether and ester urethanes. They are homogenous, low-viscosity solutions that are reportedly much easier to use than pigments.

BondTint colorants are a new line of reactive, polymeric colorants for bonded underlay. Bright, easy-to-use colors can be used as blends or with a three-stream, blend on-the-fly system.

Cleartint line of transparent colorants for polyolefins is available as pelletized concentrate and reportedly bright, clear, nonbleeding, nonmigrating. Because they are nonnucleating, shrinkage or warpage is eliminated.

Advantage colorants are a new line of opaque color concentrates for polyolefins. Because they do not nucleate, they do not affect part dimensions or cause warpage.

MINERAL PIGMENTS CORP.

Inorganic pigment line includes a full assortment of synthetic and natural iron oxides designed for maximum ease of dispersion and a line of high-heat-stable browns and tans especially formulated for thermoplastics.
