Colorado.gov Online Vehicle Registration Renewal Expands to Nine Counties.

Potential Eligible Registered Vehicles Reaches 2.5 Million

DENVER -- Colorado motor vehicle lines are shorter thanks to a new online service that has already renewed more than 33,500 vehicle registrations and has recently expanded to nine counties. The Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV DMV
abbr.
Department of Motor Vehicles
) last week added Arapahoe, Larimer and Routt counties to its Online Vehicle Registration Renewal service. The DMV will add additional counties throughout the year, joining Boulder Boulder, city, United States

, Denver, Douglas, El Paso El Paso (ĕl pă`sō), city (1990 pop. 515,342), seat of El Paso co., extreme W Tex., on the Rio Grande opposite Juárez, Mex.; inc. 1873. , Jefferson, Pueblo and the three new counties.

"This unique online service demonstrates how the state is attempting to provide convenient, user-friendly and modern services to the public," said Gov. Bill Ritter Bill Ritter may refer to:

  • Bill Ritter (politician) (born 1956), American politician, 41st (and current) Governor of Colorado
. "More than 2.5 million registered vehicles are now potentially eligible for the online registration option, a convenient, fast, and efficient alternative to the old paper process. This latest technology is part of our larger plan to enhance services to the public while improving efficiencies within state government."

First introduced in Douglas and Denver counties in December 2006, Online Vehicle Registration Renewal allows vehicle owners with an eligible vehicle registered in a participating county to renew their registrations quickly and easily via the Internet. Vehicle owners need only enter their license plate number and the system will automatically verify that the vehicle meets minimum eligibility requirements and that the owner has up-to-date insurance and emissions information on file with the county. Once confirmed, the owner can complete the online portion of the vehicle registration renewal within minutes.

"Since the launch of the Online Vehicle Registration Renewal service, there have been more than 33,500 plates renewed online," said Roxy Huber, executive director of the Colorado Department of Revenue. "This service has proven to be a great success. We are very excited to offer more residents the ability to renew their vehicle registrations online with the added convenience of paying the renewal fee using a credit card or electronic check. This online service has also benefited the counties by reducing paperwork and shortening lines in county motor vehicle offices."

Residents of participating counties can access the service at http://www.Colorado.gov/renewplates.
