First introduced in Douglas and Denver counties in December 2006, Online Vehicle Registration Renewal allows vehicle owners with an eligible vehicle registered in a participating county to renew their registrations quickly and easily via the Internet. Vehicle owners need only enter their license plate number and the system will automatically verify that the vehicle meets minimum eligibility requirements and that the owner has up-to-date insurance and emissions information on file with the county. Once confirmed, the owner can complete the online portion of the vehicle registration renewal within minutes. "Since the launch of the Online Vehicle Registration Renewal service, there have been more than 33,500 plates renewed online," said Roxy Huber, executive director of the Colorado Department of Revenue. "This service has proven to be a great success. We are very excited to offer more residents the ability to renew their vehicle registrations online with the added convenience of paying the renewal fee using a credit card or electronic check. This online service has also benefited the counties by reducing paperwork and shortening lines in county motor vehicle offices."
