Work under the contract is the beginning of a four-year rehabilitation project at The Dalles Dam on the Columbia River at The Dalles. Rewind of unit 9 is scheduled to be completed by December 1996. The contract includes an $8.07 million option to complete rewinds on five other generating units at The Dalles. That work is scheduled for completion by September 2000. The Dalles Dam was constructed in the 1950s and began operations in 1957. It generates enough electricity to light two cities the size of Portland for one year.
