Colorado Student Nurses Association Convention report.The Colorado Student Nurses Association had its fall convention on September 29 at the Pueblo Convention Center in conjunction with the Colorado Nurses Association. The convention focused on helping students make the transition from student to professional nurse. A panel of nursing specialties In the modern world, there are a large number of specialities within nursing. Professional organizations or certifying boards issue voluntary certification in many of these specialties. offered students a glimpse of the many opportunities that are available in the nursing profession. Karen O'Brien spoke on public health, Durelle Jones on oncology, Mona Kurtz on Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner, John Roland John Roland (born 1941) was a news person who worked at WNEW-TV (now WNYW) from 1969 to his retirement in 2004. CSNA CSNA Classification Society of North America CSNA California School Nutrition Association CSNA California State Numismatic Association (Alameda, CA) CSNA Cardozo Shaw Neighborhood Association (Washington, DC) was honored to have Lola Fehr as the keynote speaker. Her presentation was titled "This is Not Your Mother's Nursing Profession." She addressed the history of nursing and nursing education as well as how leadership in the profession has developed. Elections were also held during our convention. CSNA is excited to welcome Michelle Chew (CSU-Pueblo) as the President Elect, Barb Lucas (CSU-Pueblo), as Secretary, Valerie Patterson (Pueblo Community College) as Treasurer, Allyson Trumbo (Beth-el) as Project Coordinator, and Chelsea Nash (Ontero Junior College) as Break Through to Nursing Director to the Board of Directors. Christopher Wall of Regis University Campuses Regis University has several campuses throughout the state of Colorado. The main campus is located in northwest Denver at 50th and Lowell Boulevard. Other sites include: Aurora, Longmont, Colorado Springs, Denver Tech Center, Fort Collins and Interlocken at Broomfield. has volunteered to regularly attend meetings and offer the perspective of male student nurses. The new board members will join Kate Peterson (Beth-el), President, Kacy Minot (Beth-el), Vice President, Kate Ormsbee (Beth-el), Communication Director, Darlene Page (UCHSC UCHSC University of Colorado Health Sciences Center ), Membership East Director, and Aspen aspen, in botany aspen: see willow. The student response to the convention was positive. Students enjoyed the speakers and the close relationship with the Colorado Nurses Association. Students felt that the convention was informative. Great strides were made in the establishment of a scholarship fund to foster professional development among students. Although only 40 students attended the convention, CSNA views the convention as a success because of the quality of the convention and the relationships built between nurses and nursing students. The opportunities for professional development are exciting and CSNA looks forward to partnering with nurses from across the state to further the nursing profession, nursing education and ultimately, patient care.
