Colorado State REP. JIM RIESBERG, a Democrat, was named the state's new insurance commissioner by GOV. JOHN HICKENLOOPER.

RIESBERG took office as insurance commissioner on July 1. He was elected to the state House of Representatives in 2004.

A Colorado native, Riesberg has 24 years of experience in the insurance industry, including positions at ALLSTATE INSURANCE CO. and HEARTH COMPANY REAL ESTATE AND INSURANCE.

He spent 16 years in leadership roles with nonprofit organizations specializing in aging, hunger and housing issues. He also taught junior high school for five years.

Riesberg takes the reins from JOHN J. POSTOLOWSKI, who was appointed interim insurance commissioner Dec. 1 after MARCY MORRISON resigned Nov. 30 after nearly four years in office.
