National Fair Housing Month kicks off in Denver with the Colorado Fair Housing Summit Conference "Fair Housing: Keepers of the Dream."

Several nationally recognized speakers will present at the summit conference March 31 and April 1, including the Assistant Secretary of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Recent research shows that while Coloradoans have a better knowledge and understanding of fair housing laws than the national average, very few people know where to go for help -- or that help is even available -- if they believe they have been victimized by discrimination. Of the residents polled, nearly 10 percent said they have experienced housing discrimination.

Wendell Pryor, director of the Colorado Civil Rights Division, the free summit conference provides an opportunity for people from across the region who are involved in all aspects of fair housing to learn more about current trends and rising issues.

"The Colorado Civil Rights Division is focusing on enforcing, and educating people about, fair housing laws," said Pryor. "The Colorado Fair Housing Initiative, which we will launch later this year, is a pinnacle pinnacle (pĭn`ĭkəl), minor architectural motif of vertical tapering shape, usually crowning a pier, buttress, or gable. Although sometimes it appears in Renaissance design, as in the Certosa di Pavia, it is almost exclusively a medieval  example of our efforts. Sponsoring the Colorado Fair Housing Summit Conference and kicking off National Fair Housing month further emphasizes our commitment."

Highlights of the conference include presentations from:
