Colorado District Attorney's Council Selects BusinessObjects XI for Performance Management; Trusted BI Platform Ensures Security for Sensitive Information.

SAN JOSE San Jose, city, United States
San Jose (sănəzā`, săn hōzā`), city (1990 pop. 782,248), seat of Santa Clara co., W central Calif.; founded 1777, inc. 1850.
, Calif. -- Behind the headlines and published statistics on crime are hundreds of public servants dedicated to making our cities and neighborhoods safer. But to accomplish this mission, district attorney (DA) offices across the country must be able to better understand trends in criminal behavior, court rulings, and effective use of internal resources. When the Colorado District Attorney's Council (CDAC CDAC Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (India)
CDAC Chinese Development Assistance Council (Singapore)
CDAC Community Development Advisory Committee
CDAC Clinical Data Abstraction Center
), a statewide co-op of the District Attorneys of Colorado, sought ways to help its DAs work more efficiently and improve overall performance, it turned to Business Objects (Nasdaq:BOBJ BOBJ Business Objects SA )(Euronext Paris Euronext Paris is France's securities market, formerly known as the Paris Bourse, which merged with the Amsterdam and Brussels exchanges in September 2000 to form Euronext NV, which is the second largest exchange in Europe behind the London Stock Exchange.  ISIN Isin (ĭs`ĭn), capital of an ancient Semitic kingdom of N Babylonia. The city became important after the third dynasty of Ur fell to the Elamites and the Amorites (c.2025 B.C.). The phase from c.2025–c.1763 B.C.  code: FR0004026250-BOB), the world's leading provider of business intelligence (BI) solutions. The CDAC selected BusinessObjects(TM) XI to track information on crime and the criminal process from the point of filing charges through sentencing. A key factor in the CDAC decision to select BusinessObjects XI was the superior security features, including role-based access and RSA (1) (Rural Service Area) See MSA.

BusinessObjects XI gives the CDAC and DAs' offices extreme insight into crime data collected throughout the state. Each DA's office can measure its teams' performance, including acquittal The legal and formal certification of the innocence of a person who has been charged with a crime.

and conviction rates as well as time to trial and sentencing. The DA offices are also able to detect local and statewide crime trends, which enable them to better allocate staffing resources. For example, if identity theft is increasing, DAs recognize this immediately and can reassign staff to address the issue.

With BusinessObjects XI, the CDAC can provide state legislators with crime statistics and analysis to improve decision making. Policy makers can more easily determine the financial impact of new legislation that may require longer prison terms. For example, when Colorado legislators consider stiffening stiff·en

. BusinessObjects XI gives law makers information on previous trials and sentencing that helps them anticipate future cases and state funding requirements. DAs will also rely on increased insight from BusinessObjects XI to form policy recommendations. If there is a growing problem, like underage drinking, DAs will recommend that the state legislature A state legislature may refer to a legislative branch or body of a political subdivision in a federal system.

The following legislatures exist in the following political subdivisions:
strengthen laws against providing alcohol to underage drinkers. Similarly, if DAs note a trend towards increasing youth violence, they might recommend that the legislature address the issue more broadly than just through prosecution.

Because DAs are elected officials, security was a major factor in the selection of BusinessObjects XI. DAs must be able to access and analyze information related to their own office, and compare it with statewide data, but they cannot access performance data from other DA offices. Additionally, Colorado is one of the few states to successfully integrate the DAs' information system with the statewide courts, police and corrections departments. With BusinessObjects XI, the CDAC has enabled case information to be shared amongst these groups while only permitting access to authorized staff.

"Security was a major concern since we are dealing with politically sensitive data and Business Objects offered the business intelligence industry's best security model," said Rick McCoy, chief information officer for the Colorado District Attorney's Council. "In addition, DAs, legislators, and journalists count on our office to provide them with crime statistics and analysis. BusinessObjects XI will increase our ability to fulfill those requests quickly and accurately."

"Business intelligence enables law enforcement agencies A law enforcement agency (LEA) is a term used to describe any agency which enforces the law. This may be a local or state police, federal agencies such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) or the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). , corrections departments and courts to dramatically improve their ability to report, analyze and manage cases," said Jay Johnson Jay Johnson can refer to:

  • Jay Johnson (ventriloquist)
, vice president of the Government Business Unit at Business Objects. "BusinessObjects XI provides the performance, scalability, and security public safety agencies need to monitor and measure mission performance."

In addition to improving DA office performance and providing timely access to information, Business Objects has significantly reduced the amount of time required to develop reports. Developers in the information technology (IT) department previously hand-coded reports in the COBOL COBOL: see programming language.

programming language. This was a time-consuming and expensive process. Today, CDAC is able to quickly design and deliver reports without writing any code, saving significant IT resources.

About CDAC

Established in 1972, primarily for intra-city and intra-agency communications, the Colorado District Attorneys' Council (CDAC) is recognized through its statutory authority as a quasi-governmental agency within the state of Colorado. As such, it enjoys a unique role within the law enforcement and criminal justice community. While recognized as a unit of government, the CDAC does not receive direct funding from the state of Colorado. It is funded largely through the offices of the District Attorneys for the 22 judicial districts within the state. Other sources of funding include numerous federal grants.
