Colorado Association for Medical Equipment Services Adopts Ethics Code at Annual Meeting.

Colorado (kŏlərăd`ə, –răd`ō, –rä`dō), state, W central United States, one of the Rocky Mt. states.
Association for Medical Equipment Services (C.A.M.E.S.), the state's trade group for the medical equipment and supply industry, announced today the adoption of a comprehensive code of ethical standards for its members.

The announcement was made at the group's annual meeting.

In an era of cost cutting in the medical arena, and with an increasingly aged population, home health care is a rapidly growing area, explained Ken Preuss, C.A.M.E.S. president. More and more people are reliant on home health care products when hospitals can no longer accommodate them, he said.

"Our members literally save billions for the taxpayer through Medicare Medicare, national health insurance program in the United States for persons aged 65 and over and the disabled. It was established in 1965 with passage of the Social Security Amendments and is now run by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.  savings that in the past would have gone to hospitals," said Preuss. "Our members also save families huge amounts in health insurance premiums by providing a cost-effective cost-effective,

."

But Preuss acknowledged that, nationally, there have been problems with fraud and abuse in the industry. Colorado has, by and large, not been affected. Said Preuss: "The code is a preventative measure, designed to promote ethical standards within the industry in Colorado. The consumer should check with their medical equipment supplier to see if it is a member of C.A.M.E.S. to be sure of ethical conduct."

The code consists of eight provisions dealing with every aspect of the business owner's dealings with the customer. In addition to broad sections to prevent racial or other biases or to avert shoddy shod·dy
