the InfoComm International 4th Annual Projection Summit Report, produced by the International Communications Industries Association Inc., Fairfax, Va., the $12 billion worldwide projections market will grow significantly with the arrival of new, high-performing, brighter, more colorful, smaller and lighter projection systems. These analysts predict presentation front projection sales alone will rise from the 3.1 million units sold in 2004 to as many as 12.9 million units in 2009.

"The new Spyder2PRO is in keeping with our Research and Development philosophy. We evolve color technology as market demands emerge, ensuring color remains true as it migrates across media. In this case, LCD and DLP (Digital Light Processing) A data projection technology from TI that produces clear, readable images on screens in lit rooms. With Spyder2PRO V2.0, pros know their work will be dynamically displayed in this new medium," says Brian Levey, vice president of Datacolor.

The product offers projector software with built-in ambient light correction that automatically creates independent profiles for medium and high room light, improved white-point correction routines, automated black-and-white luminance The amount of brightness, measured in lumens, that is given off by a pixel or area on a screen. For example, dark red and bright red would have the same chrominance, but a different luminance.  adjustments, and improved methodology for loading calibration data at start-up. A "Profile Chooser" makes it easy to select and change profiles. Additionally, V2.0 software reduces read times on LCD and laptop monitors by half. True multiple monitor calibration support is now available for both Mac and Windows systems.

The colorimeter, which is the core of the Spyder2PRO V2.0 package, has received accolades from prestigious digital technology editors and magazines worldwide, Datacolor says.

Another new product from Datacolor, Spyder2 Express, is designed to meet the color accuracy demands of digital camera users.

"More people understand and care about neutral grays, accurate flesh tones, shadow detail and highlights. Digital photos now need to have perfect color to be acceptable. [Spyder2 Express] incorporates ColorVision wizard software technology, which is easy to use whether you are a creative professional or digital enthusiast. At the same time, Express users get the same technology the pros use for color clarity in a product targeted to the digital darkroom enthusiast at an exceptional price point," Levey says.
