Colonial Pipeline, Reinauer Transportation to provide joint service into Northeast markets.ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 25, 1996--Colonial Pipeline Co. of Atlanta and Reinauer Transportation of Staten Island Staten Island (1990 pop. 378,977), 59 sq mi (160 sq km), SE N.Y., in New York Bay, SW of Manhattan, forming Richmond co. of New York state and the borough of Staten Island of New York City. , N.Y., today announced that they will work jointly to provide a bundled transportation service for the delivery of refined petroleum products from the Gulf Coast to New England New England, name applied to the region comprising six states of the NE United States—Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. Colonial, with origins in the U.S. Gulf Coast, is the nation's largest-volume transporter of refined petroleum products. Reinauer is one of the northeast's most prominent marine transporters of refined products. Colonial daily delivers an average of more than 16.5 million gallons of gasoline, diesel fuel, home heating oil and aviation jet kerosene kerosene or kerosine, colorless, thin mineral oil whose density is between 0.75 and 0.85 grams per cubic centimeter. A mixture of hydrocarbons, it is commonly obtained in the fractional distillation of petroleum as the portion boiling off to the New York harbor. Reinauer barges significant volumes of the same fuels to seaports in New England, upstate New York and the New York harbor. Spokesmen said the two companies have agreed in principle and are in the process of completing a strategic alliance to combine their transportation capabilities. The two companies are currently establishing the framework for the joint service as well as the details of the combined structure to carry out this rather unique alliance between a pipeline and a barge company. The ultimate goal, according to both companies, is to provide seamless transportation for its customers. The two companies expect to be able to offer the bundled service by the spring of 1997.
