Colonial Data Technologies acquires Canadian Caller ID business.

NEW MILFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 1, 1995--Colonial Data Technologies Corp. (AMEX: CDT), a provider of high technology telecommunications products and services, today announced that it had acquired the Canadian Caller ID business of TIE/communications Inc.

In connection with the acquisition, a newly formed subsidiary, CDT Canada Corp., will manage Colonial Data's Canadian operations, which will include a manufacturing, engineering and sales facility in Brampton, Ontario, a suburb of Toronto.

Robert J. Schock, president and chief executive officer of Colonial Data, commented that "We are excited to substantially increase our presence in the Canadian market, the largest market for Caller ID and other enhanced network services outside the United States. With this acquisition, we will be acquiring North American manufacturing capabilities and a first-rate research and development staff."

Joe Cline, Colonial Data's vice president of sales and marketing, added that, "By joining forces with an organization that has an established presence in the Canadian Caller ID market, we will be establishing a firm base for not only Caller ID, but the integrated Caller ID and Call Waiting and ADSI capable `smart telephones' which we expect to introduce into the market later in the year. We will also be expanding our Caller ID product base both in Canada and in the United States."

The financial terms of the transaction were not announced, but they do not include the issuance of any shares of common stock of Colonial Data.

In connection with the acquisition, the company also announced that Robert F. Wasco had assumed the position of director of Canadian operations and will relinquish his position as the company's chief financial officer. John Giamalis, Colonial Data's director of finance, will assume Wasco's responsibilities as chief financial officer.

Colonial Data Technologies Corp. designs, develops and markets telecommunications products that support enhanced network services being developed and implemented by the regional Bell operating companies and other telephone operating companies. The company has concentrated its product development and marketing efforts on products that support Caller ID, a service that allows subscribers to view the telephone number and the directory name of the calling party before the call is answered, and to store that information in memory. The company also provides repair and refurbishment and other support services to telecommunications service providers and other commercial customers.
