Colombia's Comcel Purchases PhonePrint 5.0 from Corsair; Carrier is Second in South America to Deploy Cellular Fraud Protection.

PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 5, 1999--Corsair Communications Inc. (Nasdaq:CAIR) today announced that it has signed a contract with Comunicacion Celular, S.A. (Comcel), the A-band carrier for Colombia, for nationwide deployment of PhonePrint(R) 5.0. PhonePrint is one of the cellular industry's leading fraud prevention systems, which uses RF fingerprinting to authenticate legitimate customers and disconnect cloned phones.

This contract comes immediately upon the heels of a contract signed with Telcel of Venezuela. These two contracts constitute Corsair's first forays into the South American marketplace.

The three-year contract is expected to save millions of dollars for Comcel in fraud reduction. Comcel is the premier carrier in Colombia, with more than 700,000 subscribers, 51 percent market share and a footprint that extends to approximately 80 percent of the country.

PhonePrint 5.0 is a new software release of the RF fingerprinting product that Corsair has offered worldwide for over three years. In many markets of the world, PhonePrint has reduced cloning fraud by as much as 95 percent. In addition to protecting subscribers from cloning in their home markets, PhonePrint also protects against roaming fraud through the PhonePrint Roaming Network.

The new release provides multi-market support, which allows carriers the ability to run several markets from one system, yet view the markets individually or combined across markets for reporting purposes. This is an important feature for companies like Comcel, which are growing through acquisition. International local language support is provided for language translation products, and the system infrastructure is Year 2000 compliant.
