The patent is very broad in that it covers multiple drugs including those that treat these diseases. Collegium intends to develop a number of combination products in targeted diseases using this unique dosage form.

"This is an important patent in that it has significant commercial potential for a large number of drug combinations especially where rapid onset and avoiding first pass metabolism may be beneficial. With patents expiring on a number of drugs and the large number of combination products in development, this patented 'MEDI-SAVER(TM)' technology presents a unique opportunity. Products developed with this 'MEDI-SAVER(TM)' technology may also offer many important clinical advantages" said Jane Hirsh, Chairman, Collegium Pharmaceutical and one of the inventors of the technology.
